A device for cutting a length of pipe includes a clamp portion for clamping around a length of pipe and a bow moveable with respect to the clamp portion that retains a loop of diamond embedded wire. The device further includes a feed for driving the bow with respect to the clamp portion and a detector for detecting bending of the wire and a control responsive to the detector for controlling feed rates. The device is made of modular parts and has synchronizing arms for clamping around a length of pipe. In one embodiment, the wheels are retained in enclosures with slots through which the cutting wire passes.

A roller module is used for driving a sawing wire to slice an ingot into multiple wafers, and includes two spaced apart main rollers and an auxiliary roller. Each main roller has a rotating axis and a diameter. An imaginary horizontal plane is defined to pass through the rotating axes of the main rollers. Two imaginary vertical planes are defined to be perpendicular to the imaginary horizontal plane and respectively pass through the rotating axes of the main rollers. The auxiliary roller is disposed above the imaginary horizontal plane and between the imaginary vertical planes. An uppermost side of the auxiliary roller is not lower than an uppermost side of each main roller. The auxiliary roller has a diameter smaller than one half of that of each main roller.

A wire-storage-and-tensioning device is arranged for loading, unloading, and tensioning the saw wire when a position and/or a length of the sawing section is changed by the guide. The guide has, for each of the plurality of independent directions of movement, a separate wire storage associated with the given individual direction of movement.
