The method includes: assembling two side web plates, rib plates and a lower cover plate on an upper cover plate to form a box-shaped structure; and welding each of joints from outside of the box-shaped structure by laser-MAG hybrid welding.

JUNCTION STRUCTURE

A lap-joined structure including at least one similar metallic material weldable to each other and a different material different in type from the at least one similar metallic material and difficult to be welded to the similar metallic material. The different material is sandwiched and fixed between the similar metallic material. The similar metallic material has at least one exhaust hole or exhaust groove around the weld zone where the similar metallic material is melted and joined together. The exhaust hole or exhaust groove extends through the similar metallic material along its thickness. Thus, the similar metallic material and the different material are fixed and joined together.

A carrier component for a vehicle application, formed by two half-shells that are welded to one another at contact sides. When assembling the two half-shells for joining same at the contact sides, in a position in which the two half-shells are arranged above one another, the point of contact of the lower half-shell protrudes in relation to the external closed side of the other half-shell. The point of contact of one of the two half-shells protrudes inward in relation to the internal closed side of the other half-shell. A method for producing a carrier component from two half-shells is also disclosed.

EXHAUST SYSTEM COMPONENT

An exhaust system component for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle comprises a substrate which is held in a substantially cylindrical housing. The cylindrical housing has a housing jacket which comprises a metal sheet bent about a cylinder axis. The ends of the metal sheet oriented in the circumferential direction relative to the cylinder axis form a joint connected with a weld seam. The weld seam is spaced apart from an inner surface of the housing jacket and the ends each have a bevel at least in sections.

Method for Producing a Workpiece Composite, and Workpiece Composite

A workpiece composite and a method for producing the workpiece composite having at least two workpieces are provided. A first workpiece and a second workpiece are positioned relative to each other, and an integral connection between the end face of the first workpiece and the second workpiece is formed in a joint section by way of a thermal joining method. Prior to forming the integral connection, the first workpiece is provided with an indentation or embossing, which adjoins the end face, at least in the joint section, whereby the thickness of the first workpiece is reduced in the region of the end face.

Lightweight vehicle pan assembly and method for attachment to vehicle frame via welding

A lightweight vehicle pan assembly and for attachment to a vehicle frame via welding includes at least one metal flange and a molded pan body. The at least one metal flange has a weld portion adapted for welded attachment to the vehicle frame and an interface portion extending from the weld portion. The molded pan body has a base wall and at least one side wall extending upward from the base wall. The interface portion of the at least one metal flange is embedded in the at least one side wall of the molded pan body. The interface portion includes at least two rows of apertures defined therein for increasing a bond strength between the at least one metal flange and the molded pan body.

Flash trap

A manifold assembly for an automobile cooling system includes a crossover tube and a crossover tube cover welded in an opening of the crossover tube A flash trap is provided adjacent the region of the weld joint to receive and capture weld flash migrating inwardly in the crossover tube.

LAP FILLET ARC WELDING JOINT

The present invention provides a lap fillet arc welding joint including a first metal sheet, a second metal sheet, and a weld bead. A region of the first metal sheet on one end side is bent. In a cross-sectional view in a cross section perpendicular to a weld line of the weld bead, in a first direction, a position of a tip end of the bent region of the first metal sheet overlaps a region of the second metal sheet on one end side. In a second direction, an amount of deviation between a central axis of a region connected to the bent region of the first metal sheet and a central axis of the region of the second metal sheet on one end side is times or less of the average value of sheet thicknesses of the first metal sheet and the second metal sheet. A joint portion length, which is a length from a root portion of the second metal sheet to a weld toe portion of the first metal sheet, is two times or more of the sheet thickness of the second metal sheet. The position of the weld toe portion of the first metal sheet in the second direction is in a range from a first position to a second position.

CONSTRUCTION OF A VEHICLE BODY STRUCTURE BY WELDING THIN SHEET METAL PANELS TO THICK METAL EXTRUSIONS
20190111523 · 2019-04-18 ·

A construction of a vehicle body structure by welding thin metal sheet panels to the substantially much thicker load bearing metal extrusions to form a vehicle body structure with a smooth exterior surface suitable for automotive, aerospace, and recreational vehicle applications. A substantially thin sheet metal panel is bent at an angle to form a hem line. The thin sheet metal panel hem line is disposed adjacent to the longitudinal edge of the metal plate structure. The bent edge of the sheet metal is corner-welded along the length of the metal plate structure. The excess metal materials formed by the weld line above the surface of the sheet metal panel and the edge of the metal plate structure is removed to form a smooth corner surface of a vehicle body structure. Another sheet metal panel can be formed and welded similarly in a mirror image fashion to the other side of the metal plate to form a vehicle body structure with a large smooth exterior surface and an interior surface concealing the hem lines of the sheet metal panels from exterior view and having the load bearing structure component in the middle of the interior surface acting as both a load bearing member and a stiffener to the vehicle body structure.
