Blade repair method, blade, and gas turbine

This blade repair method has: a first welding step in which overlay welding in which a first welding material is used is performed to form a notched part and a bury a first region positioned on a blade-body side with a first welding material; and a second welding step in which, after the first welding step, overlay welding in which a second welding material is used is performed to form a notched part and bury a second region positioned on a front-surface side of a platform with the second welding material. The high-temperature strength of the second welding material is higher than the high-temperature strength of the first welding material, the weldability of the first welding material is higher than the weldability of the second welding material, and the second region is located in a range from 1.0 mm to 3.0 mm (inclusive) from the front surface of the platform toward the blade body.

ADAPTIVELY DEPOSITING BRAZE MATERIAL USING STRUCTURED LIGHT SCAN DATA

A method is disclosed for providing a component. During this method, a substrate is scanned using structured light to provide substrate scan data. The substrate scan data is compared to substrate reference data to provide additive manufacturing data. Braze powder is deposited with the substrate based on the additive manufacturing data. The braze powder is sintered together during the depositing of the braze powder to provide the substrate with sintered braze material. The sintered braze material is heated to melt the sintered braze material and to diffusion bond the sintered braze material to the substrate.

Method of metal work repair in hybrid composite blades

A method of repairing a composite blade. The composite blade includes a metal work bonded to a composite part through an adhesive layer. The method includes determining a locally damaged portion of the metal work, and removing a bullet portion corresponding to the locally damaged portion. The method further includes detaching, debonding, and removing a first wing portion from the composite part to obtain a first exposed surface portion. The method further includes detaching, debonding, and removing a second wing portion from the composite part to obtain a second exposed surface portion. The method further includes reconditioning the first and second exposed surface portions to obtain first and second reconditioned surface portions, respectively, and applying first and second adhesive layers to the first and second reconditioned surface portions respectively. The method further includes bonding a metal work patch to the first and second adhesive layers.

Method of tight crack braze repair using acoustics

A method for braze repair of tight cracks in a superalloy component is provided. The method includes directing energy, e.g., from an acoustic energy source, towards surfaces of the tight crack to break up one or more contaminants, corrosion products, or oxides at the surface. The directed energy may cause opposed walls of the tight crack to vibrate to break up the oxides, and to generate a modest heat for allowing infiltration of the tight crack with a braze material. The braze material is then melted at a melt temperature of the braze material but below the melt temperature of the component. The braze material is then solidified to repair the tight crack.

In situ gas turbine prevention of crack growth progression via laser welding

Methods for material build-up on a tip of a blade of a gas turbine engine are provided. The method can include inserting a material supply adjacent to the tip and directing a laser onto the interface of the material supply and the tip such that the material supply melts and attaches to the tip. Methods are also provided for remotely stopping a crack in a component of a gas turbine engine. The method can include inserting an integrated repair interface attached to a cable delivery system within a gas turbine engine; positioning the tip adjacent to a defect within a surface of the component; supplying a new material to the fillable area to fill the defect; and directing a laser to the new material within the fillable area to fuse the new material to the component within the defect.

A nanoparticle powder is disclosed including a plurality of stabilized nanoparticles having a superalloy composition. At least about 90% of the particles have a convexity between about 0.980-1 and a circularity between about 0.850-1. A method for forming a braze paste is disclosed including mixing the plurality of stabilized nanoparticles with at least one organometallic precursor and up to about 5 wt % binder. A method for modifying an article is disclosed including applying the braze paste to a substrate including at least one crack, removing at least about 70% of the binder in the braze paste, and then applying additional braze paste over the first portion. Under vacuum or inert gas atmosphere, essentially all remaining binder is evaporated. The braze paste is brazed to the article at about 40-60% of the superalloy's bulk liquidus temperature, forming a brazed material and thereby sealing the at least one crack.
