DEVICE IN THE FORM OF A KIT FOR MIXING AND INJECTING A BONE CEMENT
A device in the form of a kit for mixing and injecting a bone cement is described, in which a mixing unit and a transfer unit are two units distinct from and independent of each other, with no element in common, and are designed to be connected alternately, that is to say successively, to the same end of a hollow cylindrical body or mixing body of a main module, before this main module is connected to an injection unit via its other end.
COLOR-CODED AND SIZED LOADABLE POLYMERIC PARTICLES FOR THERAPEUTIC AND/OR DIAGNOSTIC APPLICATIONS AND METHODS OFPREPARING AND USING THE SAME
Polymeric particles are provided for use in therapeutic and/or diagnostic procedures. The particles include poly[bis(trifluoroethoxy)phosphazene and/or a derivative thereof which may be present throughout the particles or within an outer coating of the particles. The particles may also include a core having a hydrogel formed from an acrylic-based polymer. Such particles may be provided to a user in specific selected sizes to allow for selective embolization of certain sized blood vessels or localized treatment with an active component agent in specific clinical uses. Particles of the present invention may further be provided as color-coded microspheres or nanospheres to allow ready identification of the sized particles in use. Such color-coded microspheres or nanospheres may further be provided in like color-coded delivery or containment devices to enhance user identification and provide visual confirmation of the use of a specifically desired size of microspheres or nanospheres.
EMBOLISATION AGENT THAT CAN SEAL OFF VARICOSITY AND/OR HEMORRHOIDS
An embolisation agent is a mixture of n-butyl cyanoacrylate and octyl cyanoacrylate having CPS ratios between 1-1000 cps. The invention is particularly related to a medical method and medical device used in treatments which enable to obturate, superficial varicosity, Pake and hemorrhoids with embolisation. By means of the device and method subject to the invention the progression of varicose veins, Pake and internal and external hemorrhoids can be stopped, obturated or clogged.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DERMATOLOGICAL TREATMENT
Exemplary methods and systems can be provided for resurfacing of skin that include formation of a plurality of small holes, e.g., having widths greater than about 0.2 mm and less than about 0.7 mm or 0.5 mm, using a mechanical apparatus. Compressive and/or tensile forces can then be applied to the treated region of skin as the damage heals to facilitate hole closure, and provide enhanced and/or directional shrinkage of the treated skin area.
Scaffolds for implanting absorbable hemostats in field conditions
The present invention relates generally to agents and devices for promoting hemostasis and, more particularly, to bioresorbable hemostatic pads or patches releasably supported on non-resorbable scaffolds for ease of delivery in the field. A sealant and/or hemostat delivery device comprises a resorbable hemostatic pad having a wound facing side and an opposite back side, with a hemostatic and/or wound sealing agent disposed on the wound facing side; a non-resorbable scaffold having an attachment zone on said scaffold; wherein said hemostatic pad is releasably attached with the back side to the attachment zone. The bond between the scaffold and the resorbable hemostatic pad or wound dressing is either (i) severed prior to removal of the scaffold or (ii) is weakened due to the adhesive bonding them together being moisture-deactivated, or (iii) is released by mechanical disentanglement.
Bone treatment systems and methods
The present disclosure relates to bone cement formulations that have an extended working time for use in vertebroplasty procedures and other osteoplasty procedures together with cement injectors that include energy delivery systems for on-demand control of cement viscosity and flow parameters. The bone cement formulations may include a liquid component having at least one monomer and a non-liquid component including polymer particles and benzoyl peroxide (BPO). The non-liquid component may be further configured to allow controlled exposure of the BPO to the liquid monomer so as to enable control of the viscosity of the bone cement composition.
Temporary Embolization Using Inverse Thermosensitive Polymers
Once aspect of the present invention relates to methods of embolizing a vascular site in a mammal comprising introducing into the vasculature of a mammal a composition comprising an inverse thermosensitive polymer, wherein said inverse thermosensitive polymer gels in said vasculature, which composition may be injected through a small catheter, and which compsitions gel at or below body temperature. In certain embodiments of the methods of embolization, said composition further comprises a marker molecule, such as a dye, radiopaque, or an MRI-visible compound.
NON-LITHOTRIPSIC KIDNEY-STONE THERAPY
One aspect of the present invention relates to a method of using peristalsis to force a polymer plug through a mammalian lumen, thereby removing any calculi and/or calculi fragments present in the lumen. In one embodiment, the method is used as an alternative to conventional lithotripsy. In another embodiment, the method is used in conjunction with lithotripsy, thereby removing the small calculi fragments that result from such procedures.
ELASTIC BIOPOLYMER AND USE AS A TISSUE ADHESIVE
The present invention provides an improved tissue adhesive to repair defects in soft tissue. Following ASTM standard tests, crosslinked methacryloyl-substituted gelatin hydrogels of the present invention (GelSEAL) were shown to exhibit adhesive properties, i.e. wound closure strength, shear resistance and burst pressure, that were superior to clinically used fibrin- and poly(ethylene glycol)-based glues. Chronic in vivo experiments in rats proved GelSEAL to effectively seal large lung leakages without additional sutures or staples, presenting improved performance as compared to fibrin and poly(ethylene glycol) glues. Furthermore, subcutaneous implantation in rats revealed high biocompatibility of GelSEAL as evidenced by low inflammatory host response. Advantageously, the tissue adhesives of the present invention are low cost and easy to produce, making them a promising substance to be used as a sealant for fluid leakages in soft tissue, as well as an easily tunable platform to further optimize the adhesive characteristics.
ADHESIVE COMPOSITIONS AND PATCHES, AND ASSOCIATED SYSTEMS, KITS, AND METHODS
Adhesive compositions and patches, and associated systems, kits, and methods, are generally described. Certain of the adhesive compositions and patches can be used to treat tissues (e.g., in hemostatic or other tissue treatment applications), according to certain embodiments.
