ANTIMICROBIAL SHAPE MEMORY POLYMERS
An embodiment includes a system comprising a thermoset polyurethane shape memory polymer (SMP) foam that includes at least one antimicrobial agent. The antimicrobial agent may include at least one phenolic acid that is a pendent group chemically bonded to a polyurethane polymer chain of the SMP foam. Other embodiments are described herein.
Method of securing an implant
An implant includes a section made of polymer, wherein at least a portion of the section has a layer of a polymerizable and/or cross-linkable material. A method for fixation of a bone plate having several plate holes using the implant includes removing a cover sheet protecting the layer of polymerizable and/or cross-linkable material, activating the layer of polymerizable and/or cross-linkable material with electromagnetic energy or with moisture, introducing the implant into one of the plate holes of the bone plate when the bone plate is positioned on a bone, pressing on an end of the implant in order to contact the activated layer of polymerizable and/or cross-linkable material with the bone underneath the bone plate, and allowing the activated and pressurized layer of polymerizable and/or cross-linkable material to polymerize and/or cross-link and to adhere to the bone.
Adhesive composition
A composition with improved adhesive and sealant properties comprising a) a pre-polymer comprising a polymeric unit of the general formula (-A-B-).sub.n, wherein A represents a substituted or un-substituted ester, B represents a substituted or un-substituted acid ester comprising at least two acid ester functionalities, and n represents an integer greater than 1, and b) an anhydride compound.
TWO-REACTANT SHEET-SHAPED ADHESIVE/REINFORCEMENT FOR TISSUES
A sheet-shaped tissue adhesive/reinforcement includes a base sheet having biodegradability and a communicative porous structure, and an adhesive resin layer fixed and formed on the base sheet. The adhesive resin layer includes a first reactant made of an aldehyded glycan and a second reactant made of partially carboxylated polylysine, and has a molar ratio of 1 as a ratio of an aldehyde group of the first reactant to an amine group of the second reactant. The adhesive resin layer has a structure of granules derived from powder of the first reactant, and a connecting layer derived from the second reactant. The connecting layer connects the granules to each other and fixes each of the granules onto the base sheet, throughout the sheet-shaped tissue adhesive/reinforcement.
MICROCARRIER FOR EMBOLIZATION AND PREPARATION METHOD THEREFOR
The present disclosure relates to a microcarrier for embolization, and a preparation method therefor, wherein the microcarrier comprises a biodegradable porous polymer, a stimulus-responsive polymer captured in the biodegradable porous polymer, and drug-supported magnetic nanoparticles captured in the stimulus-responsive polymer, thereby being capable of operating in an in vivo tumor-targeting manner and releasing, by an external stimulus, the drug-supported nanoparticles, so as to be effectively usable in tumor embolization.
Medical Device
A medical device is disclosed capable of reducing risk factors of an anastomotic leakage after a surgical operation is performed. The medical device includes an adhesion promotion sheet configured to include an adhesion promotion portion promoting adhesion of biological tissues and a frame portion provided outside the adhesion promotion portion in a plane direction and a pulling unit connected to the adhesion promotion sheet and configured to deform a second region so as to cover at least a portion of an outer peripheral surface of a biological organ to be joined with a pulling operation.
Shapeable scaffold material and uses thereof
The invention relates to a scaffold material comprising a plurality of particles of a highly porous polymeric material, characterized in that said scaffold material becomes a shapeable paste once hydrated. The specific features of the particle material impart a special behavior to the scaffold, which can be easily shaped and even highly reversibly compressed, so that in certain aspects it can, if needed, be injected, said capacity to be shaped being maintained over a high range of hydration conditions. A particular aspect of the invention relates, therefore, to the use of such scaffold material for the manufacturing of shapeable body implants, such as breast implants, to the shapeable body implants themselves as well as to non-invasive methods for using thereof in creating or reconstructing a three-dimensional volume in a subject's body part.
Method and system for use in a lung access procedure to aid in preventing pneumothorax
A method for use in a lung access procedure to aid in preventing pneumothorax includes providing a cannula having a pair of balloons, the pair of balloons including a first balloon longitudinally spaced from a second balloon along the cannula; inserting the cannula along an access opening and through pleural layers, with the first balloon and the second balloon of the pair of balloons respectively positioned on opposite sides of the pleural layers; inflating the pair of balloons with a first amount of a two-component sealant to compress the pleural layers together; and inflating the pair of balloons with a second amount of the two-component sealant that is sufficient to rupture the pair of balloons so as to comingle a first sealant component and a second sealant component of the two-component sealant at the site of the pleural layers so as to adhere the pleural layers together.
SKIN COMPATIBLE SILICONE COMPOSITION
A skin compatible component attachable to mammalian skin. The component is formed as a silicone matrix comprising a polyorganosiloxane derived silicone polymer and a moisture control particulate and permeability modifying polymer distributed within the polymer network. The skin compatible component may be utilised as an ostomy wafer or flange to secure an ostomy appliance to the skin and in particular peri-stomal skin.
Trocar assembly with antimicrobial skirt
A trocar assembly includes a housing, an elongated cannula extending from the housing to an insertion tip, and skirt. The skirt has a leading end portion and a trailing end portion. The leading end portion is secured to the insertion tip. The skirt has an outer surface supporting an antimicrobial material and an inner surface supporting a medical adhesive material.
