Flexible abrasive for polishing surfaces
A flexible abrasive (10) with a preset shape corresponding to the shape of the operating head of a machine tool such as a sanding machine and comprising a first support (16) made from a woven or non-woven material where a lower surface can be fixed to a backing plate or a pad of the operating head. The abrasive surface is made from at least two strips (20-23) applied side by side and parallel to each other and where the second support (11) of each strip (20-23) is separately fixed on the first support (16), and where the abrasive surface (18) is shaped so that it can be applied to the backing plate or pad of the operating head.
NONWOVEN ABRASIVE ARTICLE AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME
A nonwoven abrasive article includes a lofty open nonwoven fiber web comprising entangled fibers; and abrasive platelets secured to the entangled fibers by at least one binder material. A majority of the abrasive platelets are respectively bonded in an edge-wise manner to at least one of the entangled fibers. Methods of making the nonwoven abrasive article and converted forms, including a convolute abrasive wheel, are also disclosed.
SURFACE CONDITIONING ARTICLE AND METHODS OF MAKING AND USING THE SAME
A surface conditioning article comprises: a fabric backing having first and second opposed major sides: a lofty open nonwoven fiber web comprising entangled fibers disposed on and secured to the first major side of the fabric backing; and abrasive particles secured to the lofty open nonwoven fiber web by a binder material disposed on the first major side. At least some of the entangled fibers extend through the fabric backing from the first side to the second side. At least one raised feature comprising an organic polymer is disposed on a minor portion of the second major side of the fabric backing. The entangled fibers extending through the fabric backing have an average diameter and at least one raised feature has a height of at least 8 times the average diameter. A method of making the surface conditioning article is also disclosed.
ABRASIVE PRODUCT
This specification relates to a solution for overcoming the problem of loose loops formed by cutting the abrasive products. A method of obtaining an abrasive product (100) is provided. The method comprises providing a substrate (101, 201, 301) having a first surface (101a, 201a, 301a) and a second surface (101b, 201b, 301b, 501b), providing abrasives (102, 202, 302) on the first surface (101a, 201a, 301a) of the substrate and providing loops (103, 203, 303) on the second surface (101b, 201b, 301b, 501b) of the substrate. The method further comprises providing a melted and/or burnt area (304, 404, 504) on the second surface (101b, 201b, 301b, 501b) of the substrate by melting and/or burning the loops, and cutting the substrate (101, 201, 301) in order to provide the abrasive product (100). Further, the abrasive product (100) is provided.
Method of making a coated abrasive article
A method of applying magnetizable particles onto an adherent web includes several steps. Step a) provides a magnetizable particle coating apparatus comprising a downward sloping dispensing surface at least partially disposed within an applied magnetic field. Step b) disposes an adherent web between upper and lower magnetic members and beneath the downward sloping dispensing surface, wherein the web comprises a backing having a curable binder precursor layer disposed on a major surface thereof. Step c) disposes magnetizable particles onto at least a portion of the downward sloping dispensing surface within the applied magnetic field, and subsequently disposed onto the curable binder precursor layer while the adherent web is advanced from an upweb position to a downweb position. Step d) at least partially cures the curable binder precursor layer to fix the orientations of the magnetizable particles.
Abrasive article and method of making the same
An abrasive article comprises abrasive particles adhered to a substrate by a binder material comprising an at least partially cured resole phenolic resin and an aliphatic tack modifier. The amount of resole phenolic resin comprises from 60 to 98 weight percent of the combined weight of the resole phenolic resin and the aliphatic tack modifier. A method of making the abrasive article is also disclosed.
Textured abrasive article and related methods
Provided are multilayered abrasive articles that include an abrasive composite having shaped features, a carrier film, and a nonwoven web, where the nonwoven web and the carrier film have respective patterns of discrete, three-dimensional protrusions that are aligned with each other. A compressible foam backing extending across a major surface of the nonwoven web opposite the carrier film. Further provided are multilayered abrasive articles that include an abrasive composite, a carrier film, and a non-woven web. The nonwoven web and the carrier film have respective patterns of discrete, three-dimensional protrusions that are aligned with each other and the shaped features and the three-dimensional protrusions of the nonwoven web have an average diameter:average diameter ratio ranging from 1:50 to 1:5.
Polymer impregnated backing material, abrasive articles incorporating same, and processes of making and using
This invention relates to composite backing materials (e.g., polymer impregnated nonwoven fabrics) and coated abrasive articles that include such composite backing materials. This invention also relates to methods of making and using said composite backing materials and coated abrasive articles. The claimed processes and systems related to the use and manufacturing of coated abrasive articles are improved and cost effective.
Electrostatic abrasive particle coating apparatus and method
A method of applying particles to a backing having a make layer on one of the backing's opposed major surfaces. The method including the steps of: supporting the particles on a feeding member having a feeding surface such that the particles settle into one or more layers on the feeding surface; the feeding surface and the backing being arranged in a non-parallel manner; and translating the particles from the feeding surface to the backing and attaching the particles to the make layer by an electrostatic force.
