Drug composition and coating
According to the invention there is provided inter alia a medical device for delivering a therapeutic agent to a tissue, the device having a solid surfactant-free particulate coating layer applied to a surface of the device, the coating layer comprising a therapeutic agent and at least one non-polymeric organic additive which is hydrolytically stable; wherein at least a proportion of the particulate coating layer comprising the therapeutic agent and the at least one organic additive melts as a single phase at a lower temperature than the melting point of the therapeutic agent and the at least one organic additive when in pure form; wherein the therapeutic agent is paclitaxel; and wherein the therapeutic agent, when formulated in the coating layer, is stable to sterilization.

EXTRACORPOREAL BLOOD CIRCULATION DEVICE
Disclosed is an extracorporeal blood circulation device including a blood circulation circuit including a blood extraction line and a return line, a blood circulator in the circulation circuit and a control unit including a calculator arranged determining at least one parameter, recording it in a memory, and then comparing the standard value of the parameter with the recorded value. The device also includes a source of solution for liquefying blood clots, a device injecting and conveying the liquefaction solution in the circulation circuit, the control unit including a driver for the injector of the liquefaction solution. The control unit is arranged to actuate the driver when the value is exceeded, meaning that at least one clot has formed, the driver being arranged so that the liquefaction solution is present in the circulation circuit in an amount and for a time determined to be sufficient for liquefying the clot formed.

Functional coating
The present invention relates to the coating of a range of functional heparins onto the surface of a substrate for which hemocompatibility is a key functional characteristic, such that the functionality of the functional heparin is maintained. The approach employs a metal coordination complex to bind to the substrate with the functional heparin binding to the metal coordination complex to thereby impart hemocompatibility.
