Articles of poly(butylene succinate) and copolymers thereof

Resorbable implants, coverings and receptacles comprising poly(butylene succinate) and copolymers thereof have been developed. The implants are preferably sterilized, and contain less than 20 endotoxin units per device as determined by the limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) assay, and are particularly suitable for use in procedures where prolonged strength retention is necessary, and can include one or more bioactive agents. The implants may be made from fibers and meshes of poly(butylene succinate) and copolymers thereof, or by 3d printing molding, pultrusion or other melt or solvent processing method. The implants, or the fibers preset therein, may be oriented. These coverings and receptacles may be used to hold, or partially/fully cover, devices such as pacemakers and neurostimulators. The coverings, receptacles and implants described herein, may be made from meshes, webs, lattices, non-wovens, films, fibers, foams, molded, pultruded, machined and 3D printed forms.

MEDICAL DEVICES TO LIMIT MOVEMENT OF BREAST IMPLANTS

Breast fixation devices for use in breast reconstruction and breast augmentation limit the rotation or movement of breast implants after implantation that results in an unnatural appearance of the breast. The breast fixation devices can include a thin-walled enclosure in the shape of a pouch. A breast implant is secured inside the pouch to limit movement by applying compression to the breast implants, or using a mating or interlocking mechanism between the pouch and breast implant. The pouches containing the breast implants are implanted in the breast. Tissue in-growth into the pouch limits movement of the pouch-breast implant assembly and thereby limits rotation, migration, and displacement of the breast implant. The pouches preferably comprise poly-4-hydroxybutyrate or copolymer thereof.

Methods and materials for augmenting a region of soft tissue
10932898 · 2021-03-02 ·

A method is disclosed for preparing a soft tissue site, and augmenting the soft tissue site, such as the breast(s), scar, depression, or other defect, of a subject through use of devices that exert a distractive force on the breast(s) and grafting of autologous fat tissue such as domes with scaling rims for surrounding each of the soft tissue site and a regulated pump. The method for preparing the soft tissue site, and enhancing fat graft results, entails application of the distracting force to the targeted soft tissue site at least intermittently for some period of time and preferably several weeks prior to the graft procedure. A related aspect of the invention includes following the preparation steps by transfer of fat from other areas of the subject to the subject's soft tissue site, and then reapplication of the distractive force to the soft tissue site that received the autologous fat graft. Alternatively, fat from genetically related sources may be used, and the fat may be further processed prior to injection. Substantial soft tissue augmentation, high rates of graft survival and negligible graft necrosis (data demonstrating 80% survival and only 20% necrosis is presented) or calcification result from the practice of these methods.

Antimicrobial wraps for medical implants

Biodegradable antimicrobial films are provided that are solid at room temperature and substantially liquefy in situ after implantation into a mammal, such as a human patient. Methods of using the films to cover a medical device, such as a breast implant, prior to insertion into a subject are also provided.

Composite implant material

A prosthetic implant with improved properties, suitable for implantation to the human body, comprising a composite comprising a base material and a plurality of additives, wherein the additives are selected from radiolucent additives and/or hyperechoic additives; or wherein the additives are selected to reduce the solvent concentration by between 5%-95%; or wherein the additives are selected to increase the elastic modulus by more than 20%; or wherein the additives are selected for combining these effects.

Compositions and methods for treating tissue are provided. The compositions may include tissue matrix derived from adipose tissue suitable for injection, small-volume implantation, or use as a soft-tissue regenerative material. Also provided are methods for producing such compositions.

Method for producing calcium phosphate molded article, calcium phosphate molded article, and material for transplantation

Provided are a method for rapidly producing a calcium phosphate molded article having high strength with high shaping precision, a calcium phosphate molded article produced by the method, and a material for transplantation. Disclosed is a method for producing a calcium phosphate molded article, the method including: step (a) of forming a layer containing a calcium phosphate powder having a ratio of the numbers of atoms of Ca/P of 1.4 to 1.8 on a substrate; and step (b) of producing a calcium phosphate molded article by jetting an organic acid solution having a pH of 3.5 or lower and including an organic acid whose calcium salt has a solubility in water of 1 g/100 mL or less, through a nozzle unit into a liquid droplet state, thereby dropping the organic acid solution onto the layer containing a calcium phosphate powder formed in step (a).
