Methods for improving mechanical properties of a tissue or for regenerating an injured or diseased tissue
The present invention relates to enhancing mechanical properties of tissue such as collagenous or collagen-containing or elastin-containing tissue (e.g., tendons, ligaments, and cartilage) and treating related musculoskeletal and non-musculoskeletal conditions or injuries.
Nanofibrillar polysaccharide for use in the control and prevention of contraction and scarring
The present invention relates to nanofibrillar polysaccharide hydrogels for use in the prevention and control of scarring and contraction in connection with wound healing or tissue repair.
Small Diameter, High Strength, Low Elongation, Creep Resistant, Abrasion Resistant Braided Structure
A braided structure that includes a core and a sheath is provided. The core includes a yarn formed at least in part from an aromatic polymer (e.g., an aromatic polyester/liquid crystalline polymer or an aramid polymer), and the sheath, which includes a plurality of ultra high molecular weight polyolefin yarns, is braided around the core. The sheath has an overall diameter ranging from about 60 micrometers to about 650 micrometers. Despite its small diameter, the braided structure can be creep resistant and abrasion resistant while at the same time exhibiting low elongation, a high load at break, and high stiffness. The braided structure can be used in medical applications such as sutures, load bearing orthopedic applications, artificial tendons/ligaments, fixation devices, actuation cables, components for tissue repair, etc.
Composite scaffold for the repair, reconstruction, and regeneration of soft tissues
A composite scaffold having a highly porous interior with increased surface area and void volume is surrounded by a flexible support structure that substantially maintains its three-dimensional shape under tension and provides mechanical reinforcement during repair or reconstruction of soft tissue while simultaneously facilitating regeneration of functional tissue.
ENGINEERING MECHANICALLY FUNCTIONAL HUMAN CARTILAGE AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME
Medical devices having engineered mechanically functional cartilage from adult human mesenchymal stem cells and method for making same.
METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS FOR TREATING TENDON DEGENERATION
Injectable compositions and methods for treating an injured tendon in an animal or human are disclosed herein. The injectable compositions include an effective amount of a carbohydrate to increase osteotendinous hydration and lubrication.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING A STORABLE MOLDED BODY MADE OF BACTERIAL CELLULOSE AND A MOLDED BODY PRODUCED ACCORDING TO THE METHOD
The invention relates to a method for producing a storable molded body made of bacterial cellulose and a molded body produced according to the method. A preferred method includes providing a molded body made of bacterial cellulose. Optionally, mechanically pressing the entire molded body or parts of the molded body at temperatures in the range of 10° C. to 100° C. and pressures in the range of 0.01 to 1 MPa for a pressing time of 10-200 min. Treating the molded body with a solution of 20% by weight to 50% by weight of glycerol and 50% by weight to 80% by weight of a C1-C3-alcohol/water mixture. Drying the treated molded body.
Medical constructs including tubes and collagen fibers
Medical constructs with collagen fibers and gelatin and related collagen fibers. The collagen fibers can be derived from extruded soluble dermal collagen and can include a gelatin film attached to the at least one collagen fiber. The gelatin film can include one or more minerals and has a gelatin concentration of between about 0.1% to about 40% weight per volume.
MATRIX FOR RESTORING SOFT TISSUE AND PRODUCING METHOD THEREFOR
Disclosed are a matrix for restoring soft tissue and a method of producing the same, the method including: forming a sheet-type absorption layer (11) on one side of a double layer using biocompatible neutral collagen; forming a film-type support layer (12) on the remaining surface of the double layer by mixing collagen with a water-soluble polymer and a natural material; and forming a double layer-structured matrix (10) for restoring soft tissue by attaching the absorption layer (11) and the support layer (12) so as to treat damage to soft tissue of a mammal other than a human or restore damaged soft tissue. This invention pertains to the treatment of damage to soft tissue such as tendons, ligaments, and rotator cuffs or the restoration of damaged soft tissue, whereby the quality and reliability of products can be remarkably improved, thus satisfying various needs of consumers, who are the users thereof, and exhibiting a good effect.
