Suction device for medical use in removing material from a surgical site or similar
A device for evacuating a surgical site of a patient includes a container that defines a first end having a tapered surgical site engaging surface and a second end having a pressure source engaging surface. The first end defines a tapered cross-section configured for being engageably received within an opening at the surgical site. In operation, vacuum pressure is applied to the second end in order to create a vacuum within the container to evacuate fluids from the surgical site.

An evacuated bottle system including a bottle defining a hollow interior, the bottle having a neck defining an opening that provides fluid communication with the interior; a cap assembly including a funnel having a first portion and a second portion, where the second portion extends radially outward from the first portion to form a floor on an interior thereof and a shoulder on an exterior thereof, the first portion defining a first bore and the second portion defining a second bore fluidly connected to the first bore; a self serum stopper having a self sealing membrane that extends radially outward to overlie at least a portion of the floor of the funnel; and a cap having a cap wall sized to fit over the funnel and a cover portion extending radially inward from the cap wall.
Manifold for filtering medical waste being drawn under vacuum into a medical waste collection system
A method of method of manufacturing a surgical waste collection manifold with a volume collected datum and a rover type to ensure compatibility with a surgical waste collection rover is provided. The surgical waste collection rover including a vacuum pump and a receiver defining an opening. The method includes obtaining a second manifold. The second manifold having a second housing defining a surface, the housing defining a second manifold volume and a second outlet opening in fluid communication with the second manifold volume. The method may further include coupling a second circuit to the surface of the second manifold, the second circuit comprising a second memory device including a third memory bank and a fourth memory bank, the third memory bank including a fifth memory field and the fourth memory bank including a sixth memory field. The method may further include programming the fifth memory field with an encrypted first hash digest based on the rover type and programming the sixth memory field with an encrypted second hash digest based on the volume collected datum.
Fluid collection
An apparatus and method for collecting fluid are disclosed. The apparatus includes a body portion comprising a fluid inlet and an outlet, an expandable container secured to the body portion, at least one wicking element extending from within the body portion into the container, and at least one super absorber element arranged inside the container.
LIQUID MANAGEMENT IN AN OPHTHALMOLOGICAL DEVICE
The invention relates to an ophthalmological device (99) which provides suction flushing, having an aspiration function and an infusion function, as well as a replaceable cassette (1) for such a device. It comprises an aspiration conveyor device (52) for motor-driven discharge of liquid from a surgical instrument (29) into a waste container (56). According to the invention, it also comprises an infusion conveyor device (36) for motor-driven supply of an infusion medium from an infusion container (30) to said surgical instrument (29).
EVACUATED BOTTLE SYSTEM
An evacuated bottle system including a bottle defining a hollow interior, the bottle having a neck with a rim defining an opening; a cap assembly supported on the bottle, the cap assembly including a funnel having a first portion and a second portion, the first portion being insertable within the interior of the bottle and the second portion engaging a portion of the bottle to support the funnel above the rim, the funnel defining a bore that fluidly communicates with the hollow interior of the bottle; a self-sealing membrane that covers the bore formed by the funnel to selectively seal the hollow interior of the bottle; a cap attachable to the bottle, the cap including a cover portion that extends at least partially over the self-sealing membrane to restrain movement thereof, the cover portion being axially spaced from the self-sealing membrane to define a gap that permits axial movement of the self-sealing membrane to selectively open the bottle to fluid communication outside of the bottle.
Negative Pressure Wound Therapy Canister Connection System
A canister connection system for a negative pressure wound therapy system. The canister connection system includes an attachment fixture removably connected to a pump unit. The attachment fixture includes a first engaging mechanism disposed adjacent its first end configured to engage a corresponding first engaging mechanism of the canister and a second engaging mechanism disposed adjacent its second end for engaging a corresponding second engaging mechanism of the canister for removably connecting the canister to the pump unit.
Chest drainage system and method
The invention relates to a chest drainage system (100) for creating and maintaining a sub-atmospheric pressure within the pleural cavity and/or the mediastinum of a patient (P). The system has a chest drainage unit (CDU, 10) with an internal cavity (C) having a first chamber part (C1, 11) and a second chamber part (C2, 12) with an air outlet from the CDU, and a liquid seal chamber (LSC, 13). The second chamber part (C2, 12) of the chest drainage unit is connected to a carbon dioxide sensor (CO2S, 15) for detecting carbon dioxide in any air passing through the liquid seal chamber (LSC, 13), the carbon dioxide sensor being capable of detecting carbon dioxide by a visible color change from a chemical reaction occurring in the carbon dioxide sensor between carbon dioxide and a detector reactant (DC) positioned in the carbon dioxide sensor. Preliminary test performed by the inventor have demonstrated that the present invention is very effective in determine whether, or not, carbon dioxide is present in the air passing through the chest drainage unit, this information being highly important in the subsequent decision of continuing the treatment with the chest drainage system.
Receiver For A Medical Waste Collection System
A receiver for a medical waste collection system. The receiver removably receives a manifold. A sled assembly moves with the manifold to facilitate movement of the manifold toward an inlet mechanism. A motion conversion assembly converts movement of the sled assembly into movement of the inlet mechanism to align the inlet mechanism with a receiver outlet to place a suction inlet and outlet of the manifold in fluid communication with a waste container and to move the inlet mechanism toward the manifold. A lock assembly locks the manifold within the receiver when the manifold is fully inserted and in fluid communication with the suction inlet of the inlet mechanism. An actuator is axially moveable to unlock the manifold from the receiver to break fluid communication between the manifold and the suction inlet.
