SYRINGE DESTRUCTION
20210187206 · 2021-06-24 ·

An apparatus for destroying syringes-needle assemblies is disclosed, the invention comprising a cradle for holding the syringe and a hub grip for gripping the hub of a needle affixed to the syringe. The apparatus comprises means for destroying the needle for example, by passing a current through it to soften/melt it, whilst at the same time, applying an axial compressive force to blunt and compress the needle. The hub grip is moveable relative to the cradle so that the needle can be pulled, unscrewed or otherwise detached from the syringe. The apparatus is preferably automated, and thus enables the destroyed needle and syringe to be separated, and therefore disposed of in separate waste streams without manual intervention.

The present invention relates to a needle shield assembly for a syringe (10), comprising an inner needle shield (16) which is flexible and designed to enclose a major part of a hollow injection needle (18) of said syringe; an outer needle shield (20) which is rigid and designed to enclose a major part of said inner needle shield (16), which outer needle shield (20) is arranged with a number of passages (22) for allowing sterilizing agents to reach said injection needle (18) during a sterilization process. The invention is characterised in that said needle shield assembly further comprises a cover element (24; 36; 46) arranged adjacent said passages (22) such as to prevent the interior of said injection needle (18) from being exposed to oxygen via said passages (22) of said outer needle shield (20) after said sterilization process.

Cleaning device and method for using the same

A cleaning device for cleaning a connector comprising a lumen and an inner threaded surface. The cleaning device includes a cleaning body and a plunger body operably coupled to each other. The cleaning body includes a plurality of elongated cleaning swabs positioned separately apart from and in parallel to each other. The plurality of elongated cleaning swabs are operably rotatable about a connector lumen and in removable engagement with a connector inner threaded surface. The plunger body includes an elongated plug to removably engage the connector lumen. The cleaning body and the plunger body are translatably coupled along a common operational axis. The cleaning body and the plunger body are rotatably coupled with respect to each other about the common operational axis. The cleaning body is an integral structure.

CONTAINERS AND SYSTEMS FOR USE DURING EXTERNAL STERILIZATION OF DRUG DELIVERY DEVICES

A container and systems for use during an external sterilization process of a plurality of drug delivery devices are provided. The container may include an outer housing and at least one partition at least partially enclosed by the outer housing. The at least one partition may include a plurality of first dividers and a plurality of second dividers. The at least one partition may also be positioned an open configuration, wherein the plurality of first dividers and the plurality of second dividers cooperate with each other to define a plurality of chambers configured to receive at least one of the plurality of drug delivery devices. The at least one partition may also be positioned in a closed configuration wherein the plurality of chambers are substantially completely collapsed.

The invention provides a syringe for use in an ophthalmic injection. The syringe comprises a body, a stopper and a plunger. The body comprises an outlet at an outlet end and the stopper is arranged within the body such that a front surface of the stopper and the body define a variable volume chamber from which a fluid can be expelled though the outlet. The plunger comprises a plunger contact surface at a first end and a rod extends between the plunger contact surface and a rear portion. The plunger contact surface is arranged to contact the stopper but not couple thereto, such that the plunger can be used to force the stopper towards the outlet end of the body, reducing the volume of the variable volume chamber, but not to move the stopper away from the outlet end.

Pre-filled disposable injection device

The present invention relates to a pre-filled disposable injection device and a needle cannula in combination. The prefilled disposable injection device (1) is made from a housing (2) containing a non-exchangeable cartridge (10) for storing a liquid drug sufficient for a number of injections. The proximal end of the pre-filled injection device (1) carries the dose setting button (3) and the distal end carries the needle cannula (20) having a lumen (21) through which the settable dose is expelled. The distal end (23) of the needle cannula (20) is covered by a telescopic needle covering shield (30) which shield (30) can operate between a first position covering the tip (24) of the needle cannula (20) and a second retracted position allowing an injection to be performed. The shield (30) carries a cleaner (50) which cleans at least the tip (24) of the needle cannula (20) between successive injections such that the prefilled injection device can be used without changing the needle cannula (20) during its life cycle.

Disclosed is an inventive method for an aseptic assembly of a multi-component medical device. In this method a first component of the medical device is provided in a first container and a second component of the medical device is provided in a second container. Each of the first and second separated containers have a rupturable portion. The first component in the first container is sterilized using a first sterilization technique and the second component in the second container is sterilized using a second sterilization technique. The first and second containers are joined while arranging the rupturable portions in an overlapping configuration which is aseptically sealed against the surroundings. Finally, one of the components is transferred through the rupturable portions and the components are aseptically assembled to form the medical device as a sterile package.
