The anesthetic dispenser at least partially enriches the gas flow to provide a breathing gas flow enriched with anesthetic at a patient connector (5). A control valve (7a) is arranged fluidically in series with the anesthetic dispenser (4). The gas outlet is connected to the patient connector (5) via a gas channel (8), arranged fluidically parallel to the anesthetic dispenser (4) and in which at least another control valve (7b) is arranged. A control unit (6) actuates at least one control valve as a function of a desired value for an anesthetic concentration in the breathing gas flow to change anesthetic concentration at the patient connector (5).

The outer body is configured to be slidable along the inner body between each of an inoperative orientation and an operative orientation with respect to the inner body. The outer body and the inner body are configured to be in engagement or in an operative association with each other when the outer body is provided in the operative orientation. The outer body and the inner body are disengaged from each other or in an inoperative association with each other when the outer body is provided in the inoperative orientation. At least one or each of a surface of the inner body or a surface of the outer body comprises of a surface relief feature(s) providing for a resistance to the outer body being moved from the inoperative orientation to the operative orientation.

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for facilitating anaesthesia, particularly in Re-Breather anaesthetic circuits. A problem with Re-Breather circuits is that their dynamic response can be relatively slow. The dynamic response is the response of the circuit to delivering changes of anaesthetic concentration. In current circuits, Fresh Gas containing anaesthetic is delivered into the circuit and may be substantially diluted by the gas already present in the circuit. It is therefore difficult to achieve a rapid increase of anaesthetic concentration for delivery to the patient. In the present invention, an accumulator is placed in the Re-Breather circuit to accumulate Fresh Gas containing anaesthetic as it is introduced into the circuit, adjacent an inhalation conduit to the patient. Fresh Gas containing high concentrations of anaesthetic is therefore immediately available to the patient.
