Ergonomic IV systems and methods

An IV catheter system may have a catheter component with a catheter hub, a cannula extending distally from the catheter hub, and a push feature protruding outwardly from the catheter hub. The IV catheter system may also have a needle component with a needle hub, a needle extending distally from the needle hub along an axis, and a grip extending from the needle hub, generally parallel to the axis, with a pull feature. In the insertion configuration, the needle may be positioned within the cannula and the distal end of the needle hub may be seated in a needle port of the catheter hub. In the fluid delivery configuration, the needle may be positioned outside the catheter hub. The push and pull features may be positioned to facilitate manipulation with a single hand to move the IV catheter system from an insertion configuration to a fluid delivery configuration.

The collet is coupled to a strain relief (107) comprising a nut (122) and a strain relief projection (135). The collet comprises at least one leaflet (124, 125) and at least one collet spur (672, 682), and the nut comprises at least one ratchet (251). The collet is configured to couple to the nut, and the at least one ratchet is configured to interact with the at least one collet spur to securely fasten the strain relief to the catheter handle. The at least one leaflet is configured to couple to a catheter shaft.

A catheter may include a hypotube defining an inner circumferential surface, an outer circumferential surface, and an end. The hypotube may include a metal or alloy. The catheter also may include an inner liner attached to the inner circumferential surface of the hypotube and extending beyond the end of the hypotube, and the inner liner may include a fluoropolymer. The catheter further may include a hub and a single bonding layer attached to the outer circumferential surface of the hypotube and bonded to the hub. The single bonding layer may include a polyamide, a polyether-co-polyamide, or polyurethane and is the only layer between the outer circumferential surface of the hypotube and the hub.

A catheter handle includes a handle body having a proximal end and a distal end and a passage extending between the proximal end and the distal end. The handle body comprises a plurality of shell parts that can be separated to access an interior of the handle body. The handle body further includes a connector mounted at the proximal end of the handle body and a strain relief arranged at the distal end, the strain relief and the connector being removably arranged relative to the handle body.

Various implementations include a sheath system with a strain relief portion. The system includes sheath for delivering a medical device including a continuous inner layer having a folded portion, an outer layer provided over the inner layer. A tubular strain relief layer is provided over the outer layer and positioned at a proximal end of the sheath and extending along at least a portion of the sheath length, the strain relief layer including a longitudinally extending opening. At least a portion of the sheath is configured to locally expand and locally contract. At least a portion of the strain relief layer is configured to locally expand and then locally contract at least partially back to the unexpanded configuration, and where the width of the opening increases as the strain relief layer moves from the unexpanded to the expanded configuration to form a gap between longitudinally extending edges of the opening.

VENOUS CATHETER

To provide a venous catheter that is easily inserted into a vein and has favorable lesion passability. A venous catheter has a shaft portion having a long tubular shape, and is inserted into a vein of a living body. In the venous catheter, the shaft portion has: a base portion having a constant outer diameter along a long axis direction; and a tapered portion having a tapered outer diameter from a distal end of the base portion to a distal end of the shaft portion, an inner diameter of the base portion is 0.86 mm or more and 1.2 mm or less, an outer diameter of the base portion is 1.5 mm or more and 2.2 mm or less, and a length of the tapered portion along a long axis direction is 10 mm or more.

Strain relief for intraluminal ultrasound imaging and associated devices, systems, and methods

Intraluminal imaging devices and methods of assembling the intraluminal imaging devices are provided. For example, an intraluminal imaging device can include a flexible elongate catheter body and a rigid imaging assembly coupled to a distal portion of the elongate catheter body. A distal portion of the inner member is positioned within a lumen of the imaging assembly, and the flexible elongate member comprises a strain relief layer positioned around the inner member. A distal portion of the strain relief layer is positioned radially between the inner member and the imaging assembly, and a proximal end of the strain relief layer is positioned distally of a proximal end of the inner member, forming a transition region. The transition region can prevent bending or kinking of the flexible elongate catheter body when the intraluminal imaging device is navigating tortuous regions of the patient's anatomy.
