REINFORCED DIRECTIONAL DRILLING ASSEMBLIES AND METHODS OF FORMING SAME
Reinforced directional drilling assemblies and methods of forming reinforced directional drilling assemblies are provided. Strengthening materials may be incorporated into a resilient layer and/or a polymer-based composite material within a directional drilling assembly to improve the durability and performance of a power section within the directional drilling assembly. Inclusion of strengthening materials within a directional drilling assembly may provide a method to detect the status of a power section and send a signal from downhole upon detecting status of the power section. Inclusion of strengthening materials also may provide a method to collect data about operating conditions, including pressure, temperature, torque, RPM, stress level, shock, vibration, downhole weight on bit, and/or equivalent circulating density to send to the surface or to MWD/LWD systems. The strengthening materials may collect data by themselves or in conjunction with a sensor.
Microfluidic pump and valve structures and fabrication methods
Plastic microfluidic structures having a substantially rigid diaphragm that actuates between a relaxed state wherein the diaphragm sits against the surface of a substrate and an actuated state wherein the diaphragm is moved away from the substrate. As will be seen from the following description, the microfluidic structures formed with this diaphragm provide easy to manufacture and robust systems, as well readily made components such as valves and pumps.
Biocompatible Component with Structural Reinforcement
A structural reinforcement and biocompatible pump head for a pump includes a reinforcement structure having a plurality of ports and fluid pathways therein. The fluid pathways in the reinforcement may be coated or lined with a biocompatible material to form a biocompatible pump head useful for liquid chromatography and other analytical instrument systems. The biocompatible material may be injection molded into the fluid pathways of the reinforcement structure and may be machined after core pins are removed to obtain a desired surface finish and/or size of the biocompatible fluid pathways of the pump head.
AXIAL ALIGNMENT STRUCTURE FOR FLUID PRESSURE PUMP
An axial alignment structure for a fluid pressure pump (100) includes: a first housing made of a resin; and a second housing made of a resin, in which a housing is configured in a state where the first housing and the second housing are joined to each other by thermal welding at a welding position, and a pump rotor is accommodated in the housing, and the first housing and the second housing have an axial alignment mechanism that axially aligns the first housing and the second housing such that axes of the first and second housings coincide with each other at the time of joining of the first housing and the second housing to each other by the thermal welding.
Fluidic circuits and related manufacturing methods
Fluidic cartridges, and manufacture thereof, having a plurality of circuit element subtypes containing pneumatically operated diaphragm members, where the diaphragm materials are selected for yield point, chemical resistance, breathability and other properties individually according to the fluidic element subtype are provided. A process of in-situ edge-bonded decoupage for forming diaphragm members inside a cartridge, and fluidic circuits having diaphragm members as active and passive circuit elements, including pumps, valves, vents, waste receptacles, reagent reservoirs, and cuvettes with optical windows, where the material composition of each individual diaphragm member may be selected from an assortment of materials during manufacture are also provided.
RECIPROCATING COMPRESSOR AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING A RECIPROCATING COMPRESSOR
A reciprocating compressor and a method of manufacturing a reciprocating compressor. The reciprocating compressor may include a discharge muffler forming a discharge chamber in which refrigerant compressed in a compression chamber flows and a discharge hose that extends from the discharge muffler to guide discharge of the refrigerant and coupled to the discharge pipe. At least a portion of the discharge muffler and the discharge hose are integrally formed using injection molding.
Orbiting scroll platter mass reduction
An orbiting scroll of a scroll compressor includes a platter wall having a first face including a spiral structure projecting therefrom, a second face having a coupling structure configured to couple the orbiting scroll to a drive mechanism of the scroll compressor, and a circumferential surface connecting the first face to the second face in an axial direction of the platter wall. The orbiting scroll includes a mass reduction feature provided as an inwardly indented channel formed in the circumferential surface. The channel is further configured to form a retaining feature for retaining a rim of a mask during a process of coating the spiral structure of the first face with a surface coating.
Stator Injection Molding Centralization
In a stator injection molding centralization technique, a mold core is disposed inside a stator tube, thereby forming an annulus between the stator tube and mold core. The mold core includes a pitch length defined between a first and second lobe tip of the mold core. A centralizing member is positioned in the annulus, which has a length at least as long as the pitch length of the mold core. During the injection molding process, elastomeric material is injected into the annulus behind the centralizing member, which is located adjacent to the injection point. As the elastomer is injected, it displaces the centralizing member ahead of it along the annulus. As the centralizing member moves through the annulus, it supports the mold core, thus preventing the sag effect.
Joining of polymer and surface-modified solid part
The present invention relates to alternative methods of joining a solid part (1) and a polymer (2). The methods comprise attaching a primer layer (4) with a predetermined surface chemistry, density and thickness covalently to at least a part of a surface (3) of the solid part (1). Some embodiments of the invention further comprise polymerizing second molecules onto the primer layer (4) so that the surface (3) is at least partly covered with surface immobilized polymer brushes (8). The surface (3) of the solid part (1) is brought into contact with the polymer (2) and a predetermined temperature profile is applied resulting in covalent bonds (6) being established between the polymer (2) and the primer (4), and/or polymer brushes (8) melting or softening and entangling with melted or softened polymer (2) so that the solid part (1) and the polymer (2) remain joined after cooling. The obtained strength of the bonding between the solid part (1) and the polymer (2) is significantly higher than if the same materials are joined with conventional methods not comprising the establishment of a primer layer (4).
CASING FOR A TURBOMACHINE
A casing for a subsea compressor comprises a main body having a central axis; a plurality of interconnection flanges attached to the main body; wherein the main body comprises an inner layer made of corrosion resistant material; an outer layer applied over the inner layer and made of a composite material; wherein the outer layer extends along the entire length of said main body.
