Strip splicing

The present invention concerns a method of splicing two sealing strips and a sealing strip formed by the method. The sealing strip is placed at longitudinal edges of a packaging material web, used for packaging containers for liquid foods. The sealing strips to be spliced are cut each forming an oblique edge of about 45, as seen in plan view. The oblique edges are then placed one on top of the other forming an overlapping area. The overlapping area is in the form of an oblique band having a length of about 3 mm. The ends of the sealing strips are then fused together by heating both from one side at the overlapping area.

Tool for Use in Robotic Case Erecting

The disclosure describes techniques for erecting cases, and particularly example structures and example methods for use in a case erecting system using a robotic arm. A tool for use in robotic case erecting may be used in conjunction with a robotic arm. Use of the tool assists in keeping a case level as the case moves along a conveyor, where a plow closes the major flaps and a tape head tapes edges of the flaps together, thereby sealing the bottom of the case. The tool also assists in regulating the gap between the major flaps, so that the gap and/or any overlap of the flaps is minimized. Accordingly, the tool assists the robotic arm to close the case in a more precise manner.

Reinforced package

A reinforced package comprising a carton comprising a plurality of panels that can comprise a first side panel connected to a front panel along a first fold line, a back panel connected to the first side panel along a second fold line, and a second side panel connected to the front and/or back panels. The reinforced package further can comprise a bag that can have an at least partially open end, an at least partially closed end, and an interior space. The carton can be positionable in non-erect and erect positions, and the carton can be configured to support the bag in the erect position. The first and second side panels can comprise retention features for at least partially retaining the carton in the erect position, and the retention features can comprise at least a V-shaped fold line extending in the first side panel from the first fold line.

An unwinding unit (400) for unwinding a strip (S) of heat sealing material for quadrangular machines (1) comprises a casing (401) adapted to be mounted on a quadrangular machine (1) and a puller (402) operatively associated with the casing (401) and configured to pull the strip (S) relative to the casing (401) along a feed path (P) and in a feed direction (V). A diverter (407) is configured to divert the strip (S) between an initial, preferably horizontal, stretch (P1) of the feed path and a final, substantially vertical stretch (P2) of the feed path, defining a curved, connecting stretch (P3) between the initial stretch and the final stretch. A deformer (413) operatively associated with the casing (401) are configured to make on the strip (5) an extended crease line (414) running along the strip itself starting from the curved stretch (P3) or downstream of the curved stretch (P3), in the feed direction (V) of the strip (S).
