PROTECTIVE SURFACE AND CUSHION LAYER USED IN SUCH A SURFACE
20210285165 · 2021-09-16 ·

The present disclosure is directed to a poured-in-place protective surface, such as can be installed at a playground. The protective surface includes an impact-attenuation or cushion layer, which comprises a blend of (a) a rubber chunk component made up of granules of reclaimed rubber, the reclaimed rubber being from non-tire sources; (b) a tire buffings component; and (c) a binder. The ratio of rubber chunk component to tire buffings component is selected to be between 1.25:1 and 10:1, and more particularly between 1.25:1 and 5:1.

Inter-penetrating elastomer network derived from ground tire rubber particles

Crumb rubber obtained from recycled tires is subjected to an interlinked substitution process. The process utilizes a reactive component that interferes with sulfur bonds. The resulting treated rubber exhibits properties similar to those of the virgin composite rubber structure prior to being granulated, and is suitable for use in fabricating new tires, engineered rubber articles, and asphalt rubber for use in waterproofing and paving applications.

DISPLAY DEVICE RESISTANT TO IMPACT
20210135156 · 2021-05-06 ·

A light-emitting device includes a housing layer, a display located adjacent the housing layer and formed of a plurality of layers including a substrate layer, a window layer formed adjacent the display opposite the housing layer and bonded to the display, and an interface layer that is disposed between the substrate layer and the housing layer and enables a lateral distortion between the display and the housing layer. The interface layer may be configured such that a first resistance to shear between the display and the window is greater than a second resistance to shear between the substrate layer and the housing layer.

METHOD TO PRODUCE A THERMOPLASTIC WEAR RESISTANT FOIL

A method to produce a wear resistant foil, including providing a first foil including a first thermoplastic material, applying wear resistant particles on the first foil, applying a second foil including a second thermoplastic material on the first foil, and adhering the first foil and the second foil to each other to form a wear resistant foil.

Lightweight fiber-reinforced polymer sandwich structures

Presented are fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) sandwich structures, methods for making/using such FRP sandwich structures, and motor vehicles with a vehicle component fabricated from a compression molded thermoset or thermoplastic FRP sandwich structure. A multidimensional composite sandwich structure includes first and second (skin) layers formed from a thermoset of thermoplastic polymer matrix, such as resin or nylon, filled with a fiber reinforcing material, such as chopped carbon fibers. A third (core) layer, which is encased between the first and second skin layers, is formed from a thermoset/thermoplastic polymer matrix filled with a fiber reinforcing material and a filler material, such as hollow glass microspheres. The first, second and third layers have respective rheological flow properties that are substantially similar such that all three layers flow in unison at a predetermined compression molding pressure. These layers may be formed from the same thermoset/thermoplastic polymer material, and include the same fiber reinforcing material.

Flexible PCM sheet materials

The invention relates to flexible PCM sheet materials having a high latent thermal energy storage density for the purpose of heat management. The flexible PCM sheet material includes a flexible supporting structure and phase-change-material elements arranged thereon separately in a specific geometry. The phase-change-material elements are geometrically defined structures composed of polymer-bound phase-change material. The flexible PCM sheet materials are characterized by a high latent heat storage capacity and optimized thermal conductivity, are dimensionally stable even in the event of temperature changes and after phase transitions, can be rolled, folded, wound, or cut to size without problems, and can be transported, stored, processed, or used in a single layer or in multiple layers.

A method to produce a wear resistant foil, including providing a first foil including a first thermoplastic material, applying wear resistant particles on the first foil, applying a second foil including a second thermoplastic material on the first foil, and adhering the first foil and the second foil to each other to form a wear resistant foil.

Insulation for conductors

An insulative assembly includes an insulative mica-based carrier film and first and second resistive grading layers joined to opposite sides of the mica-based carrier film. The first resistive material layer is configured to engage one or more conductors and insulate the one or more conductors from at least one other conductor. A method for creating an insulative assembly for one or more conductors includes obtaining an insulative mica-based carrier film, depositing a first resistive grading layer on a first side of the mica-based carrier film, and depositing a second resistive grading layer on an opposite, second first side of the mica-based carrier film.
