ULTRA-HIGH BARRIER METALLIZED FILM

A metallized multi-layer film having ultra-high oxygen and moisture barrier properties includes a core layer and a metal bonding layer preferably formed by coextruding. The metal bonding layer includes a preponderance, by weight, of a propylene/butene-1 copolymer free of particulates. A metal coating adhered to the metal bonding layer having a metal adhesion strength to the metal coating in excess of 90%, and the metallized film includes an oxygen barrier of less than 15.0 cc/m2/day and a water barrier of less than 0.1 gms/m2/day.

The support layer has a composition which contains 100 to 70 mass % of a linear low-density polyethylene, and 0 to 30 mass % of a propylene homopolymer. The peel layer has a composition which contains 40 to 60 mass % of a low-density polyethylene, 10 to 20 mass % of a high-density polyethylene, and 20 to 50 mass % of a propylene homopolymer. The propylene homopolymer in the support layer and the propylene homopolymer in the peel layer have a melt flow rate of 1 g/10 min to 9 g/10 min.

The core layer comprises a polypropylene mini-random homopolymer, wherein the mini-random homopolymer comprises polypropylene, up to 2 wt % ethylene components, and a acid neutralizer in a concentration up to 5000 ppm calcium. The skin layers each comprise a) at least about 95 wt % of a polypropylene mini-random homopolymer comprising polypropylene, up to 2 wt % ethylene components, and an acid neutralizer in a concentration up to about 5000 ppm, and b) an anti-block agent in a concentration up to about 1 wt %, wherein the anti-block agent comprises at least 95 wt % homopolymer of polypropylene and 1 to 5 wt % of silica having a particle size between about 1 to 3 μm.

The present invention relates to a container liner for holding liquid goods, wherein the liner comprises a film comprising one or more layers, wherein at least one of said layers is a layer L1 comprising (a) ≥20.0 wt %, preferably ≥20.0 and ≤80.0 wt %, with regard to the total weight of that layer L1, of a polyethylene P1 having: •a density of >900 and <915 kg/m.sup.3, preferably of >905 and <913 kg/m.sup.3 as determined in accordance with ASTM D1505 (2010); •a melt mass flow rate of ≥0.1 and ≤5.0 g/10 min, preferably of ≥0.5 and ≤2.0 g/10 min, as determined in accordance with ISO 1133-1 (2011) at 190° C. using a load of 2.16 kg; and (b) ≥20.0 wt %, preferably ≥20.0 and ≤80.0 wt %, with regard to the total weight of that layer L1, of a polyethylene plastomer P2 having: •a density of >880 and <905 kg/m.sup.3, preferably of >890 and <904 kg/m.sup.3 as determined in accordance with ASTM D1505 (2010); •a melt mass flow rate of ≥0.1 and ≤5.0 g/10 min, preferably of ≥0.5 and ≤2.0 g/10 min, as determined in accordance with ISO 1133-1 (2011) at 190° C. using a load of 2.16 kg. Such container liner demonstrates a desirably high flex resistance, combined with a high dart impact resistance, and a high tensile strength.
