Panel for sheathing system and method

The panel includes a water resistant barrier layer secured atop its outward facing surface. The water resistant barrier layer includes a skid resistant surface. The panels are made of lignocellulosic material. The water resistant and skid resistant surface may include indicia for aligning strips of tape or for aligning fasteners. A method for manufacturing the water resistant building panels is also disclosed and includes the steps of feeding paper onto a forming belt, depositing lignocellulosic material and the binding agent onto the forming belt so as to form a lignocellulosic mat, applying heat and pressure so as to impart the skid resistant surface on the paper, and cutting panels to predetermined sizes.

FORMALDEHYDE-FREE HIGHLY WATER AND ABRASION RESISTANT OVERLAY FOR BUILDING PRODUCTS

A paper based overlay is provided. The overlay has a paper impregnated with a resin composition having an acrylic resin having a glass transition temperature in a range of from about −20° C. to about 40° C. and a resin content from about 15 to about 35 wt. % based on the weight of the overlay. The acrylic composition may include wax in the amount of about 0.005 to about 3.5 wt. % based on the weight of the resin composition. A method of producing the overlay is also provided. The overlay is highly water and abrasion resistant with low volatile content.

An insert may be positioned between the plurality of sheets, prior to the pressing and consolidating/curing, wherein the fibrous material may in include paper, and wherein the resin includes one of a thermoset resin or a thermoplastic resin.

An engineered wood based siding, cladding or panel with a pre-consolidated fines layer (PCF) applied to the top of the main strand matrix layers to minimize telegraphing and provide an improved surface appearance. The PCF is consolidated prior to application to the surface of the strand matrix or mat, and takes the place of a loose fines layer. The PCF prevents the loss of fines into the strand matrix, effectively keeping the fines at the surface so they can effectively and efficiently function to prevent or eliminate strand telegraphing, and provide a smooth finished surface for the product.

The sheet of paper is impregnated with a binder, the sheet of paper impregnated with binder is pre-dried so that it is still sticky, at least one additive is applied onto the pre-dried, still sticky binder, and the sheet of paper which is impregnated with binder and provided with an additive is dried to a residual moisture content of up to 8%.

The sheets each contain a hygroscopic agent having properties of a re-moistening-type glue that exhibits adherence when adsorbing moisture and that solidifies when being dried. The sheets are bonded to each other by the hygroscopic agent.
