Releasable polyester high gloss metal transfer film
A carrier film of thermoplastic polyester has releasable metal adhesive properties suitable for a metal transfer in which the polyester film is metalized and the metal layer is subsequently transferred to a permanent adhesive-coated substrate. The metal layer is in direct contact with the polyester carrier film and no intermediate release layer is present. Desired metal adhesion is provided by dispersing an suitable surfactant, and optionally, a hydrocarbon wax, uniformly into the polyester film. Surfactant on the outer surface of the carrier film modifies metal adhesion to the polyester such that the metal can be removed in a metal transfer operation.

The assembly is beneficially applied to a variety of articles and used in a variety of related methods. In an exemplary embodiment, a race car comprises a protected graphics assembly that comprises: optionally, at least one adhesive layer; at least one outwardly exposed polymer layer that is essentially free of low surface energy materials; and at least one graphics layer substantially protected from exterior exposure by the polymer layer.
Polyol polyester and polyhydroxy alkane blends with polar polymers
Compounds that can be produced by a ring-opening reaction of epoxidized alkanes or epoxidized fatty acid esters having a molecular weight greater than 200 grams per mole are blended with polar polymers to improve the gloss of the polar polymers. These compounds include at least one polar functional group and are blended with polar polymers, or blends comprising at least one polar polymer, in order to improve the gloss of these polymers, such that they have suitable gloss right out of the manufacturing operation without the need for further painting or lamination steps. These compounds may also improve the impact strength of the polar polymers. Also disclosed are composite structures wherein an outer cap layer is made from the polar polymer blended with the gloss improving additive.
