TREATMENT OF HEADACHE
20180161084 · 2018-06-14 · ·

Headache treatment methods are described and include providing an energy delivery device; locating a secondary or higher-order branch of a postganglionic nerve that provides innervation for a patient's head, by identifying a target region of the patient's head that includes the nerve branch; positioning, within the target region, a portion of the energy delivery device; and applying, from the positioned portion of the energy delivery device to the target region, an amount of energy effective to result in a stimulation activity of the nerve branch; and, after observing the stimulated nerve branch activity, delivering, from the energy delivery device to the nerve branch, energy in an amount effective to reduce a headache severity in the patient.

TARGETED HAPTIC PROJECTION

A system provides haptic functionality. The system determines a location of a body area of a user relative to a location of a haptic device that includes an ultrasound emitter. The system then determines a haptic effect, and projects the haptic effect to the body area of the user by the ultrasound emitter of the haptic device.

Treatment planning and delivery using temperature uncertainty maps
09971004 · 2018-05-15 · ·

A method and programmable computer system calculates and displays the regions where the temperature can be reliably measured in a thermal therapy procedure. The clinician or automated control system then can make an informed decision to treat these regions or plan a treatment to avoid them based on the sensitivity of surrounding structures to unintended heating.

NASOLACRIMAL IMPLANTS AND RELATED METHODS FOR TEAR STIMULATION

A device for inducing production of tears may include a body extending from a proximal end to a distal end. The body may be configured for insertion through a puncta of a subject. The device also may include a stimulus delivery mechanism positioned between the proximal end and the distal end and an induction coil operably coupled to the stimulus delivery mechanism. Further, the device may include an external controller wirelessly coupled to the induction coil for inductively transferring energy to the induction coil.

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Tissue Stimulation Treatment and Compliance Monitoring

A system and method for PEMF tissue engineering enhances musculoskeletal tissue stimulation by monitoring treatment for compliance with treatment regimens. A PEMF device includes sensors that detect attributes indicating whether the PEMF device is in use. The PEMF device also includes communication devices that connect it with other devices. The data obtained from the sensors may be used to determine a level of compliance in use of the tissue engineering device with a prescribed treatment regimen for the patient. The data is transferred via a paired UE to a remote server. The remote server stores the data in a database and periodically generates compliance reports. The compliance reports are shared with subscribing access devices including the prescribing physician. The UE pairing with the PEMF device maintains a treatment calendar and dynamically modifies reminders based on current treatment status. The treatment regimen may be updated and sent to the PEMF device.

High intensity focused ultrasound with capacitive micromachined transducers
09937364 · 2018-04-10 · ·

A medical instrument (900, 1000) comprising a high intensity focused ultrasound system (911) comprising an ultrasound transducer (102, 104, 202, 204, 302, 407, 08) with an adjustable sonication frequency. The ultrasound transducer comprises capacitive micromachined transducers (102, 104, 202, 204, 302, 407, 508). Execution of machine executable instructions by a processor causes the processor to: receive (700, 800) a treatment plan (924) descriptive of a target zone (908) within a subject (902); determine (702, 802) a traversal distance (926) through the subject to the target zone using the treatment plan, wherein the traversal distance is descriptive of the traversal of ultrasound from the ultrasound transducer to the target zone; determine (704, 804) a sonication frequency (829) using the traversal distance for focusing the sonication volume onto the target zone; and sonicate (706, 806) the target zone using the high intensity focused ultrasound system at the sonication frequency.

The present disclosure relates to an implantable device that delivers therapeutic energy to a patient. More specifically it relates to implantable ultrasonic devices adapted to affect vascular endothelium to induce at least one substance selected from Nitric Oxide, NO, and/or adenosine triphosphate (ATP) release. Furthermore, the present disclosure relates to the treatment of various medical conditions, such as pulmonary hypertension, peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and Asthma by enhancing local perfusion to specific target organs.

SYSTEM FOR INDUCING SONOPORATION OF A DRUG INTO CANCER CELLS AND METHOD THEREOF

A method for controlling ultrasonic waves to induced sonoporation of a drug into cancer cells in a tumor. The method may include accessing configuration data that may include a type of the tumor and a type of drug, and determining values of operational parameters that may be based on the configuration data to define determined values. The operational parameters may include frequency value and duty cycle value. The method may also include determining frequency value which may be based on the type of tumor that may define a determined frequency value, and determining the duty cycle value which may be based on the type of drug and the type of tumor that may define a determined duty cycle value.
