There is provided a print apparatus and a media roll for the print apparatus, comprising a media identifier located on an end of a core section of the media roll. A type of media loaded into the print apparatus is determined by sensing the media identifier on the media roll using a non-contact sensor to scan the end of the core section.

In one example, an inkjet web printer includes a print engine and a controller programmed to determine that a second print job following a first print job may be printed without stopping the web and, without stopping the web, cause the print engine to print the second print job.

In an example of the disclosure, power of a first light beam emitted across a web media along a length of the roller is measured utilizing a first optical transmitter and first optical receiver pair situated adjacent to a roller. Power of a second light beam emitted across a length of the roller is measured utilizing a second optical transmitter and second optical receiver pair situated adjacent to the roller. A media height non-uniformity is identified based upon of the measurement of the power of the first light beam and the measurement of the power of the second light beam.

A recording apparatus includes a containing portion that contains a rolled sheet obtained by winding a sheet and a recording portion that records an image on the sheet fed from the rolled sheet contained in the containing portion and further includes an opening/closing member that can be movable between an open position at which the containing portion is opened and a closed position at which the containing portion is closed and a first guiding portion provided in the opening/closing member to guide the rolled sheet to the containing portion in a case where the opening/closing member is at the open position.

A printer includes a printer body including an installation area where a recording medium is installed, a print head that prints information on the recording medium, a controller, a movable guide that guides the side of the recording medium in the installation area, and a first switch that detects a position of the movable guide attached to the installation area. The controller performs a print control process corresponding to the width of the recording medium based on information obtained by the first switch.

Provided is a printing apparatus including a printing apparatus main body, a cutter unit attached to the printing apparatus main body, a fixed blade, a movable blade configured to mesh with the fixed blade to cut a printing medium, and a pickup sensor configured to detect a printing medium. A printing device includes a roll paper holder configured to accommodate a first roll paper and a second roll paper and having first and second side walls configured to contact side surfaces of the first roll paper, a remaining amount detecting section having a first projection projecting from the first side wall to detect a remaining amount of the first roll paper accommodated in the roll paper holder, a roll paper guide configured to be installed in the roll paper holder and having a third side wall configured to contact a side surface of the second roll paper when the second roll paper is accommodated in the roll paper holder, and a detection assistance section provided on the roll paper guide and having a second projection projecting from the third side wall in a state of being in contact with the first projection.

A printing device includes a main body, an opening/closing cover that is coupled to the main body and moves to an open position or a closed position, a roll paper holder provided on the main body and configured to accommodate a first roll paper, and a remaining amount detecting section that detects a remaining amount of the first roll paper accommodated in the roll paper holder, and the remaining amount detecting section shifts from a first state in which the remaining amount of the first roll paper is not detected to a second state in which the remaining amount of the first roll paper is detected, with movement of the opening/closing cover from the open position to the closed position.

A printing apparatus, comprises a first circuit board configured to control a first motor and a printing unit that performs printing to a print medium, a second circuit board configured to control a second motor, a sensor configured to output a sensor signal used to control the first motor and the second motor, and a signal line configured to input the sensor signal from the sensor to the first circuit board and the second circuit board.

A thermal-transfer printing apparatus includes a roll-paper-supplying unit that rotates an image-receiving paper roll and unwinds and winds a roll type of first image-receiving paper, and a print unit that includes a thermal head for heating a thermal transfer sheet and that forms an image by transferring a color material from the thermal transfer sheet to the first image-receiving paper. With the image-receiving paper roll removed, a reverse unit that reverses a sheet type of second image-receiving paper is mountable in a region in which the image-receiving paper roll used to be contained. The print unit forms the image on the first image-receiving paper in a first printing mode in which the image-receiving paper roll is contained in the region, and the print unit forms an image on both surfaces of the second image-receiving paper in a second printing mode in which the reverse unit is mounted on the region.
