Method and application device for applying a transfer layer of a film to a substrate
A method for applying a transfer ply of a foil to a substrate, with the steps of: a) regionally applying a radically curable adhesive to the transfer ply and/or the substrate by means of an inkjet printhead; b) precuring the adhesive by UV irradiation; c) applying the transfer ply to the substrate by means of a stamping apparatus; d) fully curing the adhesive by UV irradiation; e) peeling a carrier ply of the foil, to leave at least one first subregion of the transfer ply on an application region of the substrate, and at least one second subregion of the transfer ply on the carrier ply; f) winding up or recoiling the carrier ply with the remaining second subregion of the transfer ply; g) applying at least one further subregion of the transfer ply remaining on the carrier ply to the substrate by at least once repeating steps a) to f).

SECURITY ELEMENT COMPRISING A PRINTED IMAGE WITH A THREE-DIMENSIONAL EFFECT
A method for manufacturing a physical security element with a spatially appearing pattern includes a carrier and at least one see-through transparent cover layer. Onto the carrier is applied a design layer deformable under pressure. Either the carrier has a lower dimensional stability under heat than the cover layer, or a cover layer has a lower dimensional stability under heat than the carrier. A see-through transparent structural layer forming the pattern is arranged between carrier and cover layer. The structural layer has a higher dimensional stability under heat than either the carrier or a cover layer. During lamination, the structural layer is pressed into the carrier or into the cover layer, whereby the design layer is deformed under the pattern formed by the structural layer and the structural layer in its edge regions is reshaped in such a way that its surfaces, in cross-section, converge tangentially.

Methods of manufacturing security documents and security devices
A method of making a security device, comprising: forming an array of primary focusing elements on a first region of a focusing element support layer, by applying at least one transparent curable material either to the focusing element support layer or to a casting tool carrying a surface relief over an area which includes at least the first region, the surface relief comprising portions corresponding to the primary focusing elements; forming the transparent curable material(s) with the casting tool; and curing the transparent curable material(s) so as to retain the surface relief in the first region; wherein the surface relief further includes a plurality of structures of greater depth than the height of the primary focusing elements such that the cured transparent material(s) include a plurality of features protruding above the height of the primary focusing elements between primary focusing elements of the array.

Card manufacturing method
A card manufacturing method includes feeding a reference sheet serving as a reference for alignment; feeding a first continuous sheet having a plurality of patterns repeatedly printed as one cycle thereon; producing a laminated sheet by laminating the first continuous sheet on the reference sheet; successively detecting a position of each one of the repeatedly printed patterns by detection means; adjusting such that the patterns are at predetermined positions with respect to the reference sheet by controlling a feeding speed of the first continuous sheet according to a detection result on the positions of the patterns; and producing a card by cutting the laminated sheet for each of the patterns, the patterns being printed so that plural patterns are repeatedly printed as one cycle, the adjustment being performed for each cycle made up of the plurality of patterns.
