Method and device for applying a film

A method for applying a transfer ply of a foil to a substrate, with the steps of: a) applying a radically curable adhesive to at least one subregion of the transfer ply by means of an inkjet printhead; b) pre-curing the adhesive by UV irradiation; c) applying the at least one subregion of the transfer ply provided with adhesive to the substrate; d) fully curing the adhesive by UV irradiation; e) peeling a carrier ply of the foil from the at least one subregion of the transfer ply. An application apparatus and also printing apparatus for implementing such a method.

A sparkling fabric includes: a fabric substrate; and a tri-layer adhered to the fabric substrate. The tri-layer includes: an adhesive layer that adheres the tri-layer to the fabric substrate; an exposed design layer; and a metal plating layer between the exposed design layer and the adhesive layer. The tri-layer is distributed as a plurality of separable and identifiable tri-layer pieces across the fabric substrate such that the distribution of tri-layer pieces has a density on the order of 15-25 pieces per centimeter squared (pcs/cm2) and a size of a piece is less than 1 millimeter (mm).

A sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to glitter includes a plurality of foil flecks adhered to consumer paper products to provide shine and sparkle and emulate traditional glitter. A consumer paper product, such as a greeting card, and a transfer foil are run through a foil press having a patterned die with a pattern thereon. A plurality of foil flecks are transferred from the foil using the die press and are affixed to the consumer paper product to add sparkle and visual interest.

HOT FOIL LOGO
20190241008 · 2019-08-08 ·

The present subject matter describes imprinting a logo on a substrate. In an example implementation, a first layer is coated on the substrate to level surface irregularities on the substrate. The first layer is a thermally cured layer. A hot foil imprint of the logo is formed on the first layer. A second layer is coated on the hot foil imprint, where the second layer is a thermally cured transparent layer. A third layer is coated on the second layer, where the third layer is an ultra-violet (UV) cured transparent layer.
