Biodegradable resin particles including a polyhydroxy alkanoate. In the biodegradable resin particles, an amount of a Ca component present in the particles is 10 to 10,000 ppm, the biodegradable resin particles have a volume average particle diameter of 2 to 50 μm, the biodegradable resin particles have a BET specific surface area of 0.8 to 10 m.sup.2/g, and the biodegradable resin particles have a linseed oil absorption of 50 to 300 ml/100 g. The resin particles of the present invention can be suitably used by being included in an external preparation, such as a cosmetic or a quasi-drug.

Native or physically or chemically modified starches, consisting of insoluble native particles with a smooth surface, free of edges, harshness, and roughness of any kind, are used as ingredients for cosmetic compositions. The particles can be of a regular spheroidal shape with diameter between 0.1 and 60 microns or of a lenticular/lamellar shape with diameter between 5 and 60 microns and thickness between 0.5 and 15 microns. Disclosed herein is a free flowing, oil absorbing and water repellant modified carbohydrate, wherein the modified car-bohydrate is produced from a carbohydrate base being derivatized with one or more anionic moieties; esterified with octenylsuccinic anhydride; and complexed with a polyvalent cation, as well as compositions containing such modified carbohydrates. Such modified carbohydrates and compositions containing same are used in food and personal care applications, cosmetics, dry shampoo, anti-perspirant, deodorant, ointment and sunscreen.

One aspect of the present disclosure is an organic/inorganic composite powder and a composition including the same in which a coating film on a surface of an inorganic powder is not easily fall off under various conditions such as pH, temperature, physical force, etc., so that has excellent moisture retention and less transferring and allows for natural makeup.
