The present invention relates to a composition comprising as active ingredients an extract of Cetraria islandica, silver and/or a salt thereof and hyaluronic acid and/or a salt thereof. The present invention further relates to the use of such composition for the treatment of skin and/or mucous membrane diseases.

A method of producing a mechanically extracted pseudo-polymorphic Cannabis extract by compressing a Cannabis substance between a heat resistant material and placing the sandwiched Cannabis substance on a press plate, pressing the Cannabis substance at a predetermined pressure for a predetermined time with the press at a temperature, releasing the press, heating the press plates to a predetermined temperature, pressing the Cannabis substance at a predetermined pressure for a predetermined time while the press plates are being heated to the predetermined temperature, collecting an extract expressed from the Cannabis substance, and storing the extract.

An apparatus is described for dispensing cosmetic material from a cartridge onto a dispensing surface. The apparatus includes a retractable plate disposed beneath the detachable portion, where a dispensing end of the at least one cartridge is configured to penetrate the retractable plate and the detachable portion. When the retractable plate is at a stable highest position, the dispensing end of the at least one cartridge is flush with the surface of the retractable plate. When the retractable plate is moved to a predetermined stable downward position below the highest position, and the detachable portion is placed on the retractable surface, the dispensing end of the at least one cartridge is flush with the dispensing surface and the retractable plate is configured to move even further downward to an unstable position in response to a downward force on the detachable portion.

The present invention provides a crude extract, fractions and sub-fractions from the seaweed Fucus distichus (FD), method of preparation and its use for inhibiting the growth of microbial cells, particularly bacteria causing acne or nosocomial infections such as MRSA in humans or MRSP in dogs.

Novel compounds able to absorb UV radiation and comprise antimicrobial properties as well. The compounds are novel and undisclosed scytonemin analogs, able to absorb up to 90% of UV-A radiation and can cover a broader UV to blue light absorption range from 293 nm to 500 nm. When mixtures of more than one compound are used, their synergetic absorption properties can cover an even broader spectrum within 293 nm to 500 nm. The compounds present faint coloration, and some are even colorless, therefor the present compounds can be easily incorporated in formulations to be used in cosmetic products, sunscreens or lenses for sunglasses.

The present invention relates generally to: a composition comprising or consisting of at least one avenantlrramide or an analogue thereof and 4-hydroxyacetophenone with an improved solubility; its cosmetic or medical use; the use of such composition N for the preparation of foods, food supplements, cosmetic, pharmaceutical or veterinary preparations; and foods, food supplements, cosmetic, pharmaceutical or veterinary perparations comprising such a composition. Finally, the present invention relates to 4-hydrox-yacetophenone for improving solutility of an avenantramide or an analogue thereof.

Various embodiments provide an antimicrobial composition comprising: a safe and effective amount of benzoic acid analog or analogs; a safe and effective amount of a buffer system of weak organic acids buffer with the negative log of the acid dissociation constant, pKa, between about 3.2 and 4.9; and a dermatologically acceptable carrier for the benzoic acid analogs and weak organic acid buffers, wherein the antimicrobial composition has a pH from about 3.2 to 4.9. In some embodiments, the antimicrobial composition comprises a safe and effective amount of an antimicrobial metal ion salt, a preferred salt being copper gluconate, at a level and pH that does not precipitate with the weak acid buffers.

In one aspect, provided is an aqueous antiseptic composition comprising glycerin 8.5-16% by weight; caprylyl glycol 0.45-3% by weight; and a first ingredient; wherein the first ingredient is acrylates/C10-30 about 0.01-0.1% by weight or ethoxydiglycol about 1-5% by weight. The glycerin, the caprylyl glycol and the first ingredient taken together form a first component. A sum of the first component is more than 13% by weight of the antiseptic composition. Other exemplary embodiments are also described. In certain embodiments, provided is an antiseptic composition useful for making skin or hand sanitizers that have a long-lasting, great antiseptic efficacy but at the same time having skin-moisturizing, low toxicity and low skin-irritating, hypo-allergenic properties, low inflammability, and low production cost.
