An image sensor includes a substrate having adjacent pixel regions and respective photodiode regions therein, and a pixel separation portion including a trench extending into the substrate between the adjacent pixel regions. The trench includes a conductive common bias line therein and an insulating device isolation layer between the common bias line and surfaces of the trench. A conductive interconnection is coupled to the common bias line and is configured to provide a negative voltage thereto. Related fabrication methods are also discussed.

An active pixel image sensor comprising a matrix of pixels organized in rows and columns and a read circuit comprising a distinct read pathway for each column of pixels, comprises: a photodiode, a storage node, a transfer transistor, a storage node reset transistor, a row select transistor and a transistor mounted as voltage follower; each read pathway comprises a subtraction block connected to receive, first, voltage at the terminals of the storage node of a pixel of the corresponding column and, second, a reference voltage of value substantially equal to the reset voltage of the pixels of the matrix seen at the input of the read pathway; the sensor comprises a controller for driving the transistors of pixels and the read circuit to perform an image acquisition in global shutter mode with subtraction of the reset noise and non-destructive reading of the pixels. A method for acquiring images is provided.
BACKSIDE ILLUMINATION IMAGE SENSOR AND IMAGE-CAPTURING DEVICE
A backside illumination image sensor that includes a semiconductor substrate with a plurality of photoelectric conversion elements and a read circuit formed on a front surface side of the semiconductor substrate, and captures an image by outputting, via the read circuit, electrical signals generated as incident light having reached a back surface side of the semiconductor substrate is received at the photoelectric conversion elements includes: a light shielding film formed on a side where incident light enters the photoelectric conversion elements, with an opening formed therein in correspondence to each photoelectric conversion element; and an on-chip lens formed at a position set apart from the light shielding film by a predetermined distance in correspondence to each photoelectric conversion element. The light shielding film and an exit pupil plane of the image forming optical system achieve a conjugate relation to each other with regard to the on-chip lens.

A solid-state imaging apparatus includes: a solid-state imaging device photoelectrically converting light taken by a lens; and a light shielding member shielding part of light incident on the solid-state imaging device from the lens, wherein an angle made between an edge surface of the light shielding member and an optical axis direction of the lens is larger than an incident angle of light to be incident on an edge portion of the light shielding member.

The present technology relates to a solid-state imaging device, manufacturing method of a solid-state imaging device, and an electronic device, which can provide a solid-state imaging device having further improved features such as reduced optical color mixing and the like. Also, an electronic device using the solid-state imaging device thereof is provided. According to a solid-state imaging device having a substrate and multiple photoelectric converters that are formed on the substrate, an insulating film forms an embedded element separating unit. The element separating unit is configured of an insulating film having a fixed charge that is formed so as to coat the inner wall face of a groove portion, within the groove portion which is formed in the depth direction from the light input side of the substrate.
PHOTOSENSITIVE IMAGING DEVICES AND ASSOCIATED METHODS
Backside illuminated photosensitive devices and associated methods are provided. In one aspect, for example, a backside-illuminated photosensitive imager device can include a semiconductor substrate having multiple doped regions forming a least one junction, a textured region coupled to the semiconductor substrate and positioned to interact with electromagnetic radiation, and a passivation region positioned between the textured region and the at least one junction. The passivation region is positioned to isolate the at least one junction from the textured region, and the semiconductor substrate and the textured region are positioned such that incoming electromagnetic radiation to passes through the semiconductor substrate before contacting the textured region.
Additionally, the device includes an electrical transfer element coupled to the semiconductor substrate to transfer an electrical signal from the at least one junction.

The present technology can be applied to, for example, an image sensor.

An image sensor comprising a substrate that includes a plurality of photodiodes and a shutter trigger contact is disclosed. The plurality of photodiodes collectively define at least part of a pixel area parallel to a surface of the substrate. The shutter trigger contact is coupled to provide a common shutter trigger signal to the plurality of photodiodes and includes a contiguous conductive region disposed on the substrate substantially coextensively with the pixel area.

A semiconductor device includes a first substrate having an attaching surface on which first electrodes and a first insulating film are exposed, an insulating thin film that covers the attaching surface of the first substrate, and a second substrate which has an attaching surface on which second electrodes and a second insulating film are exposed and is attached to the first substrate in a state in which the attaching surface of the second substrate and the attaching surface of the first substrate are attached together sandwiching the insulating thin film therebetween, and the first electrodes and the second electrodes deform and break a part of the insulating thin film so as to be directly electrically connected to each other.
