Flame resistant fabric having antimicrobials and methods for making them

Flame resistant fabrics having antimicrobial properties that combat odor and/or resist hazardous microorganisms. The fabrics are particularly suitable for use in clothing and more particularly in protective garments designed to be worn by individuals, such as military personnel and emergency rescue personnel, at risk of exposure to fire and extreme temperatures as well as hazardous substances. The fabrics may be formed in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to, incorporating antimicrobial fibers into the flame resistant fabric yarn or by treating the pre-formed flame resistant yarn or fabric with antimicrobial agents in a dyeing or finishing process.

A head protection system includes a safety helmet and a fire protection cloth. The safety helmet includes a helmet shell (105) and a holding device (108) to guarantee a distance (A) between a helmet shell inner side (106) and the user head (102). An air path (110) is formed by a plurality of openings (120) of a fastening ring (125) and the distance between the inner side of the helmet shell and the head of the user. The fastening ring is arranged at least in an area of the user forehead of the user. The fire protection cloth has a fastening strap (230) with rigid fastening elements (235) configured to mesh with an opening of the fastening ring to detachably fasten the fire protection cloth to the safety helmet. The rigid fastening elements fill the plurality of openings in the fastened state to close the air path.

THERMAL LINER FOR PROTECTIVE GARMENTS
20220053859 · 2022-02-24 ·

A nonwoven for use in a thermal liner for protective apparel includes 1-45 wt % of a first inherently heat resistant fiber excluding an aramid, and a balance of a second heat resistant fiber. The nonwoven excludes wool and has a thickness less than 3 mm and a basis weight of less than 2.9 osy (100 gsm). In another embodiment, the insulating layer for protective apparel includes a nonwoven including an inherently flame resistant fiber and fibers being inherently resistant to moisture absorption. The inherently flame resistant fiber is different from said inherently resistant to moisture absorption fiber. The nonwoven has an equivalent or better thermal protective performance (TPP) and a lower basis weight than an industry standard nonwoven consisting of a nonwoven of para-aramids or meta-aramids or a blend of both.

Modular turnout gear
