Protection and Installation Device for Fire Protection Sprinklers
20230100701 · 2023-03-30 ·

A method and device for protecting and installing a fire protection sprinkler assembly having a thermally responsive trigger. The method includes shielding and torquing a fire protection sprinkler with a protective device having a torque assist feature. The protective device includes a first member and a second member opposed and spaced about a plane to define an internal void and a lateral slot for strapping about the sprinkler. The torque assist feature includes a first confronting segment of the first member and a second confronting segment of the second member. The first and second confronting segments are disposed on opposite sides of the plane and spaced apart laterally about the device axis. Each of the first and second confronting segments define an internal surface of the device that form a contact surface engagement with one arm in the pair of frame arms to transfer a torque or rotational force to the sprinkler.

A method and device for protecting and installing a fire protection sprinkler. The method includes torquing the sprinkler with a protective device strapped about the sprinkler and pulling a releasing segment of the device to expose operational components of the installed sprinkler. The protective device includes a first and second member having a hinged connection about which the members pivot with respect to one another between an open configuration and a closed configuration. At least one of the members includes a torque assist portion for applying the torque to the sprinkler and a releasing segment spaced laterally from the hinge connection to pivot the members from the closed configuration to the open configuration and release the protective device from the sprinkler.

Sprinkler guard for a fire protection sprinkler and a method of manufacturing a sprinkler guard

A sprinkler guard includes at least one plate centered relative to a central axis of the sprinkler guard. A plurality of legs includes first and second legs that are attached to one plate, and third and fourth legs that are attached to another plate. A circular ring is attached to lower ends of the first to fourth legs, a center of the circular ring coinciding with the central axis, and the first to fourth legs being spaced apart about the circumference of the circular ring. First and second arms are attached to the first and second legs, respectively. In addition, a cross bar can be attached to the circular ring and extend across a diameter of the circular ring.

An apparatus and method are provided for expelling a fluid, including vapor and liquid sprays. A spray is expelled at high velocities from a heated chamber via an exit valve. The chamber includes a flow member or structure that directs and controls the flow of the fluid from an inlet orifice to an outlet orifice along a non-linear path. This prevents the liquid from moving in a wave motion within the chamber if the apparatus is moved.

Each of the members of the protective device has a first lateral end and a second lateral end disposed about the thermally responsive trigger. At least one of members has a concave segment and a convex segment formed between the first lateral end and the second lateral end. The convex and concave segments define therebetween an external torque assist surface of the protective device that can be used to manually torque and install the sprinkler assembly.

Protective Cover and Installation Tool for Fire Protection Sprinklers

A device for protecting and installing a fire protection sprinkler. The protective device is embodied as a tubular cap that axially receives the sprinkler. The protection and installation device includes a wall with a stiffening element to facilitate the strength and rigidity of the device so that it can sufficiently transfer a torque to install the protected sprinkler.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF FIRE PROTECTION SPRINKLERS

A sprinkler includes a body defining a bore extending from an inlet to an outlet. At least one of an inner diameter and a wall thickness of the bore can be sized such that a K-factor of the sprinkler is within a threshold of 30.8, the K-factor defined in units of gallons per minute [gpm]/(pounds per square inch [psi]).sup.1/2.
