Fire suppression system and method

A fire suppression system includes at least one high pressure gas source containing an inert gas, at least one low pressure gas source containing an organic halide gas, a distribution network connected with the high pressure gas source and the low pressure gas source to distribute the inert gas and the organic halide gas, and a controller in communication with the distribution network. The distribution network includes flow control devices configured to control flow of the inert gas and the organic halide gas. The controller is configured to initially release the inert gas in response to a fire threat to reduce an oxygen concentration at the fire threat below a preset oxygen concentration threshold, and release the organic halide gas to increase an organic halide gas concentration at the fire threat above a preset organic halide gas concentration threshold while the oxygen concentration is below the preset oxygen concentration threshold.

Systems and methods for fire protection of horizontal interstitial spaces with expanded localized heat detection areas

Fire protection systems and methods provide for the protection of horizontal concealed interstitial spaces of either a solid wood joist, open bar joist or open truss construction system. The systems and methods provide and locate fire protection sprinklers to define localized heat detection areas that are over 1000 sq. ft, at least 2000 sq. ft., over 2000 sq. ft. and/or otherwise unconfined by draft curtains or other barriers.

In-rack fire protection sprinkler system including at least one unitary horizontal barrier that covers racks of adjoining racks and at least one rack level fire protection sprinkler disposed below the at least one unitary horizontal barrier

A fire protection sprinkler system includes a horizontal barrier that covers two adjacent racks, and the vertical flue space between the racks. The horizontal barrier is provided at a predetermined height, and has a width that is at least equal to a width of the rack, and a depth that is at least equal to a sum of a depth of the rack, a depth of the other rack, and a depth of the vertical flue space. In addition, the horizontal barrier is a sheet having one or more apertures. The system also includes a rack level fire protection sprinkler connected to a fluid supply conduit, and being disposed in the vertical flue space below the horizontal barrier. The rack level sprinkler has a K-factor of 11.2 gpm/(psi).sup.1/2 or greater, and is vertically spaced from commodities stored on the rack and the other rack covered by the horizontal barrier.

An illustrated view of an exemplary fire fountain for preventing a home from perishing during a fire is presented. The fire fountain is useful for providing protection for rural homes and during forest fires for rural homes that are in danger of being emblazed in a fire before firefighters can provide assistance at the home. Also, the fire fountain is useful for providing peace of mind to the rural homeowner. The fire fountain is cost effective and cost efficient while being in a constant state of readiness. The fire fountain is useful for reducing a chance of a fire and therefore saves lives and property which in turn can reduce insurance costs.

A fire retardant delivery system for use with a source of carrier for protection from wildfire is provided. The system includes a retardant tank for storing a fire retardant. The retardant tank is in fluid communication with the source of carrier. A metering valve is constructed and arranged to meter a flow of fire retardant injected into the carrier discharged from the source of carrier to maintain a predetermined proportion of fire retardant to carrier, thereby creating a fire retardant and carrier mixture. At least one distribution nozzle is configured to deliver the fire retardant and carrier mixture to a desired area.

Flexible dry sprinkler

A dry fire protection sprinkler has an inlet seal assembly to seal an inlet orifice. A spring seal compresses in response to a load. An inlet release unit releases the inlet seal assembly. A flexible tube has an inlet end connected to the inlet release unit. A flexible linkage extends through the flexible tube, and has an inlet end connected to the inlet release. An outlet biasing portion is connected to an outlet end of the tube and an outlet end of the linkage, which displaces upon activation of the sprinkler. A sprinkler body is connected to the outlet biasing portion, with an outlet seal assembly to seal its outlet orifice. When ambient reaches a predetermined temperature, the outlet seal assembly releases from the outlet orifice, and the outlet biasing portion displaces the linkage, causing the inlet of the linkage to operate the inlet release unit, releasing the inlet seal.
