Fire protection systems and methods for ventilation hoods
Preferred systems and methods for ceiling ventilation hood fire protection are provided in which fire protection nozzles are installed within a ventilation hood (12) to address a fire in a hazard zone (HAZ) below the ventilation hood. The fire protection nozzles (20) are disposed proximate the ventilation filters (18) or ports within the ceiling ventilation hood to provide overlapping protection of the hazard zone independent of airflow through the hood.
Air mover device and method for firefighting
The invention includes an air mover device used for fire mitigation and protection. The core component is an air mover unit whose discharge airstream can be positioned using air rudders and/or a directional control assembly to provide air flows in optimum directions and capacity to counter unwanted fire progression or to promote fires in cases of back-burns. Additional support components include a power supply, its fuel source, a speed control mechanism for the air mover, an air mover inlet protective screen, a sparger unit to impart suppressant or retardant into the airstream, balancing feet, a removable nozzle, and instrumentation and controls to ensure function and safety of equipment and personnel. This device can be on a static or mobile platform, towed or self-propelled and can be locally or remotely controlled.
Amphibious aircraft fire fighting enhancement
The instant invention relates to an apparatus and method for enhancing the fire extinguishing properties of water for use with fire fighting aircraft. The apparatus and method includes the steps of, and equipment for, transferring media into a holding tank in aircraft; filling a reservoir hopper with water in the aircraft; calculating the amount of media to be added to the reservoir; drawing the calculated amount of media into the reservoir to form an enhanced fire fighting admixture while the aircraft is in flight, wherein the admixture is offloaded by a controlled discharge for use in fighting forest fires.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MONITORING AND CONTROLLING FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS IN COMMERCIAL KITCHENS
Disclosed herein is a system and process for monitoring and controlling fire suppression systems in commercial kitchens. Repeatedly various components of the fire suppression systems are tested for faults. When a fault is detected in a particular component, the fault is communicated through a communications module associated with the commercial kitchen via the internet to one or more remote servers. Upon receiving information indicating a particular fault, the one or more remote servers acts to alert interested parties of the default.
FIRE SAFETY AND EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM FOR AN ELECTRICAL ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM
A fire safety and extinguishing system for an electrical energy storage system includes at least one sensor for detecting a hot spot abnormality in the electrical energy storage system; a fire extinguisher installed inside a housing of the electrical energy storage system, wherein the fire extinguisher is configured to dispense an extinguishing agent when a hot spot abnormality in the electrical energy storage system is detected; a liquid separator arranged to receive an ethylene glycol and water mixture from a cooling reservoir, and to separate water from glycol. An outlet of the liquid separator is fluidly connected to an inlet of the housing of the electrical energy storage system to provide pressurized extracted water to the fire extinguisher as the extinguishing agent.
Spin-Air Speaker
The spin-air speaker is an innovative sound generation and manipulation device, primarily characterized by a modulated spinning disc with a tailored hole pattern and a mechanism for controlled airflow. This technology leverages a precision motor assembly, which includes options such as a stepper motor or a motor/encoder combination, to modulate the disc's rotation speed and pattern. The invention's uniqueness lies in its ability to produce a wide range of sound frequencies and patterns, adjustable through the disc's hole pattern. A notable application of the spin-air speaker is in the field of fire suppression, where it utilizes specific sound frequencies to target and extinguish fires by achieving what is termed a Pyrosonic lock on the fire's fundamental and harmonic frequencies. The spin-air speaker's versatility extends to generating musical notes and melodies, and its capability to produce sounds below the human hearing range opens up possibilities for various non-entertainment applications, including but not limited to fire extinguishment.
Mitigation of vapor cloud explosion by chemical inhibition
A method to mitigate the consequences of a vapor cloud explosion due to an accidental release of a flammable gas in an open area, comprising: defining an hazardous area wherein an accidental release of flammable gas is likely to happen; receiving a signal from a detector device able to detect the presence of the flammable gas within the hazardous area, upon reception of a signal indicating the presence of the flammable gas within the hazardous area, generating a control signal to activate a release of a flame acceleration suppression product in the hazardous area, at a rate that is determined as a function of the volume of said hazardous area.
Fire suppression apparatuses and methods for suppressing a fire with an object
A fire suppression apparatus is described that includes a base and a lid. The base has an opening and walls defining an internal area. The base also includes a sleeve with a portion positioned in the internal area and around a perimeter of the walls, and the sleeve defines a region of the internal area for placing an object. The sleeve also has an opening for placing the object into the region. The base further has a first fire suppressing powder positioned in the internal area between the sleeve and the walls. The lid covers the opening of the base, and has a cavity, a second fire suppressing powder contained inside the cavity, and a divider positioned to cover the cavity of the lid. Methods for suppressing a fire of an object are also described.

Fire suppression systems
A method of fire suppression may include injecting a reactive agent into a reaction zone to produce a catalytically active species for fire suppression and conveying the catalytically active species to a fire to catalytically interfere with flame chemistry of the fire. Fire in a fuel tank may be suppressed by injecting the reactive agent into a convective flow of a mixture of fuel and oxidizer in a fuel tank, the reactive agent reacting in the fuel tank to release a species which catalytically interferes with flame chemistry to suppress fire in the fuel tank. Fire at an airplane crash may be suppressed by releasing the reactive agent from the container at the crash site to produce an active species to catalytically interfere with a fire at the crash site.
