A headrest includes a frame made of metal, the frame includes a base plate supported by a headrest fixing device, and a cover plate disposed on an occupant head side of the base plate. The cover plate includes a cover panel portion, and a cover frame portion extending from an outer circumferential edge of the cover panel portion toward the base plate. The base plate includes a base panel portion, and a base frame portion extending from an outer circumferential edge of the base panel portion toward the cover plate, and fitted into the cover frame portion. A first part of the cover frame portion is joined to the base frame portion, and a remaining second part of the cover frame portion is enjoined to the base frame portion.

A headrest includes a frame made of metal, the frame includes a base plate supported by a headrest fixing device, and a cover plate disposed on an occupant head side of the base plate. The cover plate includes a cover panel portion, and a cover frame portion extending from an outer circumferential edge of the cover panel portion toward the base plate. The base plate includes a base panel portion, and a base frame portion extending from an outer circumferential edge of the base panel portion toward the cover plate, and fitted into the cover frame portion. A first part of the cover frame portion is joined to the base frame portion, and a remaining second part of the cover frame portion is enjoined to the base frame portion.

A headrest may be fixed relative to a seat or a bank of seats in a vehicle and can provide multiple stages of deformation in response to a collision event. The headrest can include a resilient member that deforms in response to a first force caused by the collision event. The headrest can also include a frame that deforms in a first manner in response to a second force greater than the first force and in a second manner in response to a third force greater than the second force. Such a headrest can provide improved impact mitigation for occupants, regardless of height and/or weight such that occupants ranging from the 5.sup.th to 95.sup.th percentile in height and/or weight are afforded similar impact mitigation despite a fixed headrest structure. In some examples, multiple such headrests may be conjoined.

A head-pan diaphragm structure attachable to or an integral part of a seat back structure, the head-pan diaphragm structure including high-performance fibers and the head-pan diaphragm structure positionable in a head strike target area of the seat back structure. A seat back assembly including a seat back frame member including spaced portions, a torsion bar attached between the spaced portions, a head-pan diaphragm structure positioned in a framed opening formed by the torsion bar and a portion of the seat back frame member, the head-pan diaphragm structure positioned in a head strike target area, and the head-pan diaphragm member including integrated high-performance fibers.

A seatback carrier module includes first and second side portions spaced-apart from one another and interconnected by an upper portion. A cradle portion is disposed along the first and second side portions and the upper portion of the seatback carrier module. The cradle portion includes inner and outer edges with a rearwardly extending body portion. A mounting portion is disposed along a portion of the inner edge of the cradle portion. The mounting portion includes inner and outer edges with a body portion disposed therebetween. The mounting portion further includes a rearwardly extending sidewall disposed along the inner edge of the mounting portion. An airbag assembly is received within the cradle portion and has an inverted U-shaped configuration to substantially surround the outer perimeter of the seatback frame. The airbag assembly is an elongate member defining an overhead airbag assembly.

A seatback assembly includes a seatback frame having first and second side members defining a back support portion of the seatback frame. An upper frame member interconnects the first and second side members of the seatback frame to define a headrest support portion of the seatback frame. The seatback frame includes an outer perimeter disposed around the first and second side members and the upper frame member. A front carrier module is operably coupled to a rear carrier module is operably around the seatback frame. The outer perimeter of the seatback frame is inset from a front edge of the rear carrier module to define a raceway therebetween. An airbag assembly is received in the raceway for outward deployment therefrom. The airbag assembly is an elongate member disposed on opposed sides of the back support portion of the seatback frame and over the headrest support portion of the seatback frame.

A seatback carrier module includes first and second side portions spaced-apart from one another and interconnected by an upper portion. A cradle portion is disposed along the first and second side portions and the upper portion of the seatback carrier module. The cradle portion includes inner and outer edges with a rearwardly extending body portion. A mounting portion is disposed along a portion of the inner edge of the cradle portion. The mounting portion includes inner and outer edges with a body portion disposed therebetween. The mounting portion further includes a rearwardly extending sidewall disposed along the inner edge of the mounting portion. An airbag assembly is received within the cradle portion and has an inverted U-shaped configuration to substantially surround the outer perimeter of the seatback frame. The airbag assembly is an elongate member defining an overhead airbag assembly.
