To achieve this, one end region (8) of the compression spring element (9) is provided with a first joint surface (14), and a series of second joint surfaces (16), which are designed complementary to the first joint surface (14), is disposed across an adjustment zone (10) along the power arm (2). The first joint surface (14) is operatively connectible to one of the second joint surfaces (16), and the power arm (2) is pressed via a further spring element (18) toward the one end region (8) of the compression spring element (9) such that the two operatively connected joint surfaces are kept in contact with each other. Resulting thereby is a simple possibility of adjustment of the force to be applied to the power arm.

A user selectable amount of force may be applied to the carriage to resist movement in either of the first direction and the second direction.

A running device and method of using the device are disclosed. The device may include a moveable material within an inner chamber of the running device's housing. In operation, a running device may be held in each hand and the runner may thrust both hands downward prior to landing and quickly bring the devices to a vertical stop after landing. Bringing the devices to a vertical stop may cause the moveable material to collide with the housing and increase the force exerted by the runner on the ground. A delay component may delay the peak force exerted by the material against the housing so that the translation of that force to the ground coincides with the peak force that the runner would have exerted against the ground in the absence of the devices.

A portable single bicep exercising machine is disclosed. The machine may comprise articulable framework running about a length of a user's given arm. This framework may be divided into upper framework and lower framework, with an articulable fulcrum connecting the upper framework to the lower framework. In use the upper framework, at an under arm pad, may be retained in a user's should/armpit region; while the lower framework may comprise a handle to be engaged by the user's hand of that same arm. Also between this upper framework and this lower framework may be one or more tension means, such that when the handle is articulated towards the under arm pad, about the fulcrum, that articulation is through resistance. It is such resistance that exercises the bicep of that same given arm.
