A front airbag (10) for a vehicle occupant (12), especially a passenger airbag, comprises a contact panel (22) facing the vehicle occupant (12) in the inflated state, wherein in the interior of the airbag at the contact panel (22) first tensile means (32) are arranged which in portions retain the contact panel (22) in the inflated state of the airbag (10) and are disposed so that the contact panel (22) forms a side bulge on at least one of its two lateral edges and forms plural central bulges between the lateral edges which central bulges are smaller in cross-section than the at least one side bulge. At least a second tensile means (38) is disposed so that the contact panel (22) forms an upper bulge (36) which substantially extends in the transverse vehicle direction (y) and, with respect to a vertical vehicle axis (z), is disposed above the central bulges.

A front airbag for vehicle occupants, comprising a front face (16) facing the vehicle occupant in the inflated state, a rear panel (14) facing the vehicle front end and a chamber defining the interior of the inflated airbag (10) is characterized in that, relating to the front face (16), a central sub-chamber starting from the front face (16) is provided which is defined by a central front panel (20) forming part of the front face (16) and a circumferential central side panel (22), wherein the circumferential side panel (22) protrudes into the envelope of the inflated airbag (10), and in that at least one outer chamber (30) laterally adjacent to the central sub-chamber (18) and surrounding the sub-chamber (18) at least partially on the outside is provided which includes an outer front panel (32) forming part of the front face (16) and a side panel (34) which is adjacent to the central side panel (22).

DUAL-CHAMBERED SIDE AND FRONT AIRBAG

A restraint system includes an A pillar, a dash extending in a cross-vehicle direction from the A pillar, a door extending in a vehicle-rearward direction from the A pillar, and an airbag mounted to the A pillar and inflatable to an inflated position. The airbag includes a side chamber and a front chamber. The side chamber is elongated along the door when the airbag is in the inflated position, and the front chamber is elongated along the dash when the airbag is in the inflated position.

SIDE AIRBAG INCLUDING LOWER LOBE AND UPPER LOBE

An airbag assembly includes a housing and a side airbag inflatable to an inflated position. The side airbag in the inflated position has an upper lobe and a lower lobe supporting the upper lobe on the housing. The side airbag includes an internal panel between the upper lobe and the lower lobe. A tether has a first end anchored to the housing and a second end anchored to the upper lobe.

An airbag includes an airbag body having a first expansion portion, a second expansion portion, a first non-expanding part, and a second non-expanding part. While the airbag body is in a deployed state, the first expansion portion is disposed on a side of an occupant; the second expansion portion is disposed at a front side of the first expansion portion and is enlarged downward with respect to the first expansion portion; the first non-expanding part includes a first extending part extending downward from an upper part of the second expansion portion and a second extending part extending upward from a lower part of the second expansion portion, and has an opening between a tip of the first extending part and a tip of the second extending part; and the second non-expanding part is disposed rearwardly apart from the opening and extends at least partially along the first non-expanding part.

Knee airbag apparatus for autonomous vehicle and method of controlling the same

A knee airbag apparatus for an autonomous vehicle, wherein a first cushion and a second cushion are deployed toward the knees of a passenger and a third cushion is deployed toward the feet and shins of the passenger according to a collision mode (head-on collision, offset collision or oblique collision) and a position (normal position or relaxation position) of a seat.

Cross-vehicle pivoting steering assembly

An assembly for a vehicle includes an upper steering shaft and a lower steering shaft. A pivot joint is between the upper steering shaft and the lower steering shaft. The upper steering shaft is pivotable in a cross-vehicle direction about the pivot joint. A pin is connected to the upper steering shaft and the lower steering shaft. The pin is releasable from at least one of the upper steering shaft and the lower steering shaft.

Energy absorption device for an occupant in vehicle seat

A restraint system for a vehicle is disclosed. The restraint system includes a seat shaped to accommodate an occupant, wherein the seat includes a seat back and an energy absorption member that expands from a stowed position and into a deployed position. The energy absorption member fills a volume of space behind the seat back when in the deployed position to absorb energy that would otherwise be imparted towards an occupant of the seat during an impact involving the vehicle. The restraint system also includes an impact sensing device generating an impact signal in response to detecting the impact involving the vehicle is imminent. The impact signal indicates an orientation and magnitude of the impact involving the vehicle. The restraint system includes a control module in electronic communication with the energy absorption member and the impact sensing device.
