The invention describes a vehicle occupant restraint system (2) comprising a control unit and at least two restraint elements (8, 10) for the protection of lower extremities (6, 6′, 7, 7′) in the area of a footwell (4) of a vehicle of a vehicle occupant seated in a particular vehicle seat of the vehicle, wherein a first restraint element (8) is configured as a knee airbag module (12), wherein a second restraint element (10) is provided for mounting into the footwell (4) of the vehicle, especially in an area of the footwell (4) of the vehicle arranged in the vehicle longitudinal direction (x) ahead of the knee airbag module (12), wherein, in a situation of restraint, the control unit can differentiate between different situations, wherein the control unit, in the situation of restraint, activates at least the first restraint element (8) and, depending on the given situation, additionally activates the second restraint element (10) and/or a partial element of the first restraint element (8) and/or a partial element of the second restraint element (10).
Restraint surface adjustment safety system
A safety system for vehicle may include a restraint surface adjustment mechanism for adjusting at least one of a height or an angle of a restraint surface disposed under a vehicle seat during a collision and/or predicted collision in which the vehicle seat is facing in the direction of travel and/or the direction of the oncoming collision. The seat may comprise a bench seat including a first seating space and a second seating space. A first restraint surface adjustment mechanism may be associated with the first seating space and a second restraint surface adjustment mechanism may be associated with the second seating space. The restraint surface adjustment mechanism may include, for example, an inflatable bladder, a movable plate which rotates about an axis, or other restraint surface adjustment mechanisms that adjust at least one of the height, angle, or physical property (e.g., rigidity) of one or more restraint surfaces.
Vehicle occupant restraint device and method for operating a vehicle occupant restraint device
A vehicle occupant restraint device comprises a control unit and a group of at least two matched airbags (20, 24; 22, 26) for the protection of a vehicle occupant (10; 16) on a particular vehicle seat (12; 16). The control unit is arranged and the airbags (20, 24; 22, 26) are disposed and designed so that, in a collision case, the control unit differentiates between a first situation in which the vehicle occupant (10; 16) is located in a standard distance area relative to a first airbag (20; 22) and a second situation in which the vehicle occupant (10; 16) is located in a rear area which is further distant from the first airbag (20; 22) than the standard distance area. When the first situation is given, the control unit activates the first airbag (20; 22) only. In contrast, when the second situation is given, the control unit activates the first airbag (20; 22) and additionally at least a second airbag (24; 26) of the group, with the first airbag (20; 22) backing the second airbag (24; 26).
Electrical assembly
An electrical assembly includes a support assembly and a track assembly. The support assembly may include a controller, a first safety device, and/or a second safety device. The track assembly may include a first tack and/or a second track. The support assembly may be configured for selective mechanical and/or electrical connection with the track assembly in a first direction and/or in a second direction. The controller may be configured to receive a first signal and/or a second signal from the track assembly. The controller may provide the first signal to the first safety device and/or provide the second signal to the second safety device when the support assembly is connected with the track assembly in the first direction and when the support assembly is connected with the track assembly in the second direction. The first safety device may include an airbag that may be activated by pyrotechnics.
Passenger protection apparatus
A passenger protection apparatus for a vehicle includes a first airbag configured to deploy from a front part of the vehicle toward a passenger, a second airbag provided under the first airbag and configured to deploy toward the passenger, and a collision type detector configured to detect a collision or collision possibility of the vehicle and detect a collision type. The collision type detector detects a first type of collision and a second type of collision. The second airbag deploys in a first deployment configuration when the first type of collision is detected, and deploys in a second deployment configuration when the second type of collision is detected. The second airbag deployed in the second deployment configuration contacts an in-vehicle component provided in a vehicle compartment, and the second airbag in contact with the in-vehicle component guides the first airbag in a direction in which the collision load is applied.
ELECTRICAL ASSEMBLY
An electrical assembly includes a first controller, a track assembly, and/or a support assembly configured for selective connection with the track assembly. The support assembly may include a second controller, a sensor, and/or a plurality of safety devices. The first controller may be configured to provide crash information to the second controller. The second controller may be configured control the plurality of safety devices according to the crash information and information from the sensor. The first controller may be connected to the second controller via at least two wireless connections. The at least two wireless connections may include at least one of induction coupling, magnetic field generation and detection, and light transmission. The first controller may be configured to provide the crash information to the second controller only via one or more wireless connections.
Seatbelt detection using computer vision
An apparatus includes a capture device and a processor. The capture device may be configured to generate a plurality of video frames corresponding to an interior view of a vehicle. The processor may be configured to perform operations to detect objects in the video frames, detect (a) occupants of the vehicle and (b) seats of the vehicle based on the objects detected in the video frames, determine a status of a seatbelt for each of the occupants and select a reaction based on (a) a state of the seatbelt and (b) characteristics of the occupants. The reaction may be selected to encourage proper usage of the seatbelt based on the characteristics of the occupants. The characteristics may be determined by performing the operations on each of the occupants.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR INHIBITING REAR COLLISIONS
Methods and systems for deterring rear collisions and/or mitigating the damage caused therefrom are provided. When the host vehicle is slowing down, coming to a stop, or stopped, and the system senses that an external vehicle in the rear is approaching at an unsafe speed, an external warning system can be activated to attempt to gain the attention of the driver of the external vehicle. If the external vehicle continues to approach at an unsafe speed such that a collision seems likely or inevitable, a brace sequence within the host vehicle can be activated to reduce injury to occupants of the host vehicle.
