ELECTRONIC MIRROR DEVICE

An electronic mirror device includes a display, a controller that controls the display, a switching portion, and a preliminary starter. The display includes a main case having an opening, a video display portion, and a semi-transparent mirror. The video display portion includes a display screen and displays camera images captured by a camera. The semi-transparent mirror is provided between the display screen of the video display portion and the opening of the main case and displays a mirror reflection. The switching portion causes the display to switch between displaying the camera images and the mirror reflection. The preliminary starter preliminarily starts up the controller and the display before the switching portion causes the display to display the camera images.

Process for representing vehicle surroundings information of a motor vehicle

The invention relates to a process for representing vehicle surroundings information of a motor vehicle, wherein the process comprises the following steps: recording a front surrounding environment of a vehicle by at least two cameras provided on a vehicle front end of the motor vehicle; detecting objects within the recorded front surrounding environment; if at least one object is detected within the front surrounding environment, determining a field of view of a driver of the motor vehicle and making a comparison to determine whether the object detrimentally affects the field of view of the driver of the motor vehicle; if the field of view of the driver is detrimentally affected by the detected object, acquiring information from the recorded front surrounding environment that is not within the field of view of the driver of the motor vehicle; and providing a perspective representation of the acquired information in the determined field of view of the driver.

Method and System for Representing Vehicle Surroundings of a Motor Vehicle on a Display Device Located in the Motor Vehicle

A method is for representing vehicle surroundings on a display device arranged in a motor vehicle, which has a first camera for detecting a first surrounding region of the motor vehicle and a second camera for detecting a second surrounding region of the motor vehicle. The first and second surrounding regions have an overlapping area. The method involves: receiving an activation signal to represent the first surrounding region on the display device; upon receiving the activation signal, detecting whether there is a malfunction of the first camera; representing the first surrounding region on the display device when there is no malfunction of the first camera; and representing at least part of the second surrounding region on the display device as an alternative when there is a malfunction of the first camera.

IMAGE GENERATION APPARATUS

An image generation apparatus includes an image processor and a detector. The image processor generates a composite image viewed from at least one virtual viewpoint, and outputs the generated composite image to a display. The detector detects an indication of a driver intention to drive the host vehicle to a right or to a left relative to a travelling direction of the host vehicle. The image processor generates the composite image viewed from a virtual viewpoint located in front of the host vehicle in the travelling direction, the composite image showing a lateral surface of the host vehicle on a side corresponding to the detected indication of the driver intention. Thus, it is possible to make it easier to check a situation at a time of a right turn, a left turn, or a travelling direction change.

DISPLAY CONTROLLER AND DISPLAY CONTROL METHOD

A display controller is provided that controls a camera capturing an image of an area diagonally behind a vehicle and including an imaging element that receives light from an image-capturing target through an optical system, the display controller including a processor that calculates a shift amount of a reference position of the imaging element with respect to an optical axis of the optical system, performs a control to move the reference position of the imaging element in a direction away from the optical axis according to the shift amount, and generates a display image based on the image captured by the camera so as to cause the display image to be displayed on a display device.

Imaging and display system for vehicle

A vehicular vision system includes first, second, third and fourth cameras having respective forward, rearward, sideward and sideward fields of view. A video processor is operable to process second image data captured by the second or rearward viewing camera. A video display screen displays video images derived, at least in part, from captured second image data. The video processor includes an image processor operable for machine vision analysis of first image data captured by the first or forward viewing camera. During a reversing maneuver of the vehicle, the video display screen displays video images derived, at least in part, from captured second image data. During forward travel of the vehicle and responsive to the image processor processing captured first image data to detect a road sign ahead of the vehicle, an image or iconistic representation of the detected road sign is displayed by the video display screen.

An image processing apparatus includes an I/F, a synthesizer, and a color determinator. The I/F obtains a captured image, which is generated by imaging a subject in the vicinity of a vehicle. The synthesizer superimposes an indicator on the captured image. The color determinator, when color of the captured image is similar to a first color, changes color of the indicator from the first color.

Light deflection prism for mounting to a surface of a device, device, and method for altering a field of view of a camera

Light deflection prism for altering a field of view of a camera of a device comprising a surface with a camera aperture region defining an actual light entrance angular cone projecting from the surface. A method comprises disposing a first surface of a light deflection prism on the surface so as to overlap the angular cone; internally reflecting a central ray, entering the prism under a normal incidence angle through a second surface, at a third surface of the prism towards the first surface under a normal angle of incidence such that the central ray enters the prism at an angle of less than 90° relative to a normal of the device surface and such that a ray at one boundary of an effective light entrance angular cone defined as a result of the light reflection at the third surface is substantially parallel to the device surface.

Transparent film display system for vehicles

A transparent flexible display film is applied to a vehicle windshield, either as a film applied to the surface of the windshield or as a layer in the laminated glass comprising the windshield. A connected computer renders a synthesized view of the external environment around the vehicle, including visual representations of information received from an on-board data sensor or from an external source. No special glasses or helmets are required for the operators and if the system fails, the display film is transparent and will not impede the operators view.
