POLYGON SHAPED FLIGHT-RESTRICTION ZONES
20170372618 · 2017-12-28 ·

Systems, methods, and devices are provided for generating flight restriction zones associated with flight response measures. The flight restriction zones may be generated with one or more flight restriction strips. Flight response measures for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) may be directed based on a location and/or movement characteristic of the UAV relative to the one or more flight restriction strips. Different flight-response measures may be taken based on various parameters.

Moving device detection

A device moving in a space determines one or more zones around it, wherein the one or more zones are linked to the device and move together with the device through the space. The device detects if a border of a first of the one or more zones starts to intersect or stops to intersect with a border of an area inside the space. If the detecting is affirmative, the device transmits information related to the intersection. An apparatus receives this information from the device and adapts a status value of the area in dependence of the received information.

Flight control for flight-restricted regions

Systems, methods, and devices are provided for providing flight response to flight-restricted regions. The location of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) may be compared with a location of a flight-restricted region. If needed a flight-response measure may be taken by the UAV to prevent the UAV from flying in a no-fly zone. Different flight-response measures may be taken based on the distance between the UAV and the flight-restricted region and the rules of a jurisdiction within which the UAV falls.

Distributed airborne transportation system

Embodiments of the present invention provide an alternative distributed airborne transportation system. In some embodiments, a method for distributed airborne transportation includes: providing an airborne vehicle with a wing and a wing span, having capacity to carry one or more of passengers or cargo; landing of the airborne vehicle near one or more of passengers or cargo and loading at least one of passengers or cargo; taking-off and determining a flight direction for the airborne vehicle; locating at least one other airborne vehicle, which has substantially the same flight direction; and joining at least one other airborne vehicle in flight formation and forming a fleet, in which airborne vehicles fly with the same speed and direction and in which adjacent airborne vehicles are separated by distance of less than 100 wing spans.

Coordinating a number of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to be deployed in a region under a set of constraints

A method for coordinating deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) within a designated region involves obtaining constraint data that specifies the operational limitations under which the UAVs are allowed to operate. A cost function is defined, having a set of cost terms corresponding to these constraints, including a term for the energy consumption of each UAV. This energy consumption is the power required by each UAV to travel from a source to a destination along a prescribed flight path. The method includes executing a UAV-capacity maximization function that generates flight paths for the UAVs based on the cost function, which adjusts the flight paths to minimize the total energy consumed while ensuring that the UAVs do not breach the operational constraints.

Airport stand arrangement

The disclosure relates to airport stand arrangement (100,200,300) comprising: a display (130); a radar-based system (110R); and one or more additional systems selected from laser-based systems (110L) and imaging systems (110C), wherein said radar-based system (110R) and said one or more additional systems together form a combined system (110,210,310), wherein the airport stand arrangement (100) is configured, based on output data from said combined system (110), to detect and track (S108,S110) an aircraft (10) within a stand area (20) when said aircraft (10) is approaching a stand within the stand area (20) for parking at a parking position (160) therein, and configured, based on said detection and tracking of the approaching aircraft (10), to provide (S114,S116) pilot maneuvering guidance information on said display (130) for aiding a pilot of the approaching aircraft (10) in maneuvering the aircraft (10) towards said parking position (160).

COLLABORATIVE AVIATION INFORMATION COLLECTION AND DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

A collaborative aviation information collection and distribution system includes a plurality of aircraft data transmitters and an aircraft data processing system. Each aircraft data transmitter is configured to selectively transmit aircraft data associated with a subscribing aircraft. The aircraft data processing system is in operable communication with each of the aircraft data transmitters and includes a data receiver, a data transmitter, and a data processor. The data receiver receives aircraft data transmitted from each of the aircraft transmitters. The data transmitter selectively transmits actionable aircraft data to one or more of the subscribing aircraft or subscribing ground-based users. The data processor determines which of, and when, the one or more subscribing aircraft or subscribing ground-based users should receive actionable aircraft data, generates actionable aircraft data from at least a portion of the received aircraft data, and supplies the generated actionable aircraft data to the data transmitter for transmission.

An air vehicle comprises a satellite receiver having messaging capability. The receiver is configured to process a command and control (C2) message when alternative communications are required. The air vehicle further comprises avionics for taking a course of action according to instructions in a C2 message received by the satellite receiver.

Aircraft navigation system and method of navigating an aircraft

An aircraft navigation system and navigation method. The system comprises a civil-certified GPS-receiver for determining first position information based on C/A-GPS-signals, and a military-type GPS-receiver for determining a second position information based on P(Y)-GPS-signals. A monitoring unit detects a first abnormal condition during jamming conditions within the C/A-GPS-signals. The unit compares the first position information with the second position information and detects a second abnormal condition when a difference between these position information is larger than a threshold value for more than a threshold duration. Upon detecting an abnormal condition, an alert procedure is initiated. In remotely piloted aircraft, Command & Control link-loss is also monitored and during link-loss, a transponder code automatically indicates communication failure. When in such situation an abnormal condition is additionally detected, a transponder code indicates airborne emergency and, subsequently, the aircraft navigation system is switched to navigating based on position information from the military-type GPS-receiver.
