The electrode assembly for a rechargeable battery includes: an electrode current collector; an uncoated region in which an electrode active material layer is not formed, and provided on one side of the electrode current collector; an electrode tab disposed in the uncoated region; and a conductive adhesion portion that is disposed between the uncoated region and the electrode tab. The conductive adhesion portion comprises a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) material.

The single-cell battery includes a case, a battery cell, an electrode terminal, and a cover plate. The electrode terminal includes a battery post. The single-cell battery further includes a current interruption device mounted on the battery post. The current interruption device has a conductive member and a flipping member connected to the conductive member for mutual electrical connection. The flipping member and the conductive member can be electrically disconnected from each other under action of air pressure. The conductive member is connected to the battery post for mutual electrical connection. The flipping member and the conductive member are connected to each other by using a boss welded structure. The boss welded structure includes a boss, a connection hole accommodating the boss, and an annular welding spot located between the boss and the connection hole. The flipping member includes the connection hole. The conductive member includes the boss. The conductive member is connected to an outer end surface of the battery post. An outer periphery of the flipping member is fixed relative to the cover plate. The battery post is mounted in a ceramic ring connected to the cover plate and is insulated from the outer periphery of the flipping member by using the ceramic ring.

A separator for an electrochemical cell having a porous layer with a blend of a first type of boehmite particles and a second type of boehmite particles and an organic polymer binder, where the first type of boehmite particles is different from the second type of boehmite particles with respect to crystallite particle size and/or composition, and the blend ranges from about 50%-50% by weight of the first and second types of boehmite particles to about 60%-40% by weight of the first and second types of boehmite particles. The separator does not include a polymer separator layer; has a shrinkage of less than 1% when heated at 220 C. for 1 hour; and swells by less than 5% when soaked in propylene carbonate for 1 hour.

Safely ingestible batteries and methods

A battery for use in electronic devices and which is safely ingested into a body and a related method of making the battery. The battery includes an anode, a cathode and a quantum tunneling composite coating. The quantum tunneling composite coating covers at least a portion of at least one of the anode or the cathode and provides pressure sensitive conductive properties to the battery including a compressive stress threshold for conduction. The compressive stress threshold may be greater than a pre-determined applied stress in a digestive tract of the body in order to prevent harm if the battery is ingested. The battery may include a waterproof seal that extends between the quantum tunneling composite coating and a gasket separating the anode and cathode to inhibit the battery from short circuiting in a conductive fluid below the compressive stress threshold.
