Vent shield for a battery module
The present disclosure relates generally to a battery module having a housing and a stack of battery cells disposed in the housing. Each battery cell has a battery cell terminal and a battery cell vent on an end of each battery cell, and the battery cell vent is configured to exhaust effluent into the housing. The battery module has a vent shield plate disposed in the housing and directly along an immediate vent path of the effluent, a first surface of the vent shield plate configured to direct the effluent to an opening between the shield plate and the housing, and a second surface of the vent shield plate opposite the first surface. The battery module also has a venting chamber coupled to the opening and at least partially defined by the second surface and a vent configured to direct the effluent out of the battery module.
Multi-layer contact plate configured to establish electrical bonds to battery cells in a battery module
An embodiment is directed to a multi-layer contact plate configured to establish electrical bonds to battery cells in a battery module. The multi-layer contact plate includes two or more primary conductive layers (e.g., Al, Cu, etc.), and a cell terminal connection layer (e.g., steel, Al, Cu, etc.) that is joined with, and sandwiched by, the two or more primary conductive layers. A portion of the cell terminal connection layer is configured to form a set of bonding connectors (e.g., bonding ribbons) to provide a direct electrical bond between the multi-layer contact plate and terminals (e.g., positive terminals, negative terminals, or a combination thereof) of at least one group of battery cells (e.g., a single group of battery cells, two groups of battery cells that are connected in series, etc.).
Battery control system
A battery control system including a secondary battery within which gas is generated with use, and a controller configured to control charging/discharging of the secondary battery. In the controller, a measurer is configured to measure a resistance of the secondary battery, and a stop director is configured to stop charging/discharging of the secondary battery when the resistance of the secondary battery has exceeded a predetermined resistance threshold.
POWER UNIT MADE UP OF A SOLDER-FREE ASSEMBLY OF A PLURALITY OF BATTERY CELLS
A power unit made up of a solder-free assembly of a plurality of battery cells having positive and negative contact surfaces, respectively, on the two opposing front ends thereof, the cells being mechanically juxtaposed and parallel with one another, the unit including: a bottom plate having metal contact zones capable of ensuring electrical and optionally thermal connection with the bottom metal base of a cell; a top plate having metal contact zones for ensuring electrical connection with the top cap of a cell; means for connecting with the top caps of the cells, which are resiliently deformable in an axial direction relative to the orientation of the cells.
CYLINDRICAL SECONDARY BATTERY
The present invention provides a cylindrical secondary battery which can have increased safety and capacity, and enhanced scratch resistance and pressure resistance on an external contact surface. To this end, a cylindrical secondary battery is disclosed, the battery comprising: a cylindrical case; an electrode assembly received in the case; and a cap assembly for sealing the case, wherein the cap assembly comprises a top plate having a notch formed on at least one surface thereof, a middle plate coupled to the top plate and including a first through-hole formed through the center thereof, and a bottom plate electrically connected with the electrode assembly and coupled to the top plate through the first through-hole of the middle plate, and includes a surface-treated region formed by surface-treating a surface of the top plate so as to have a concave-convex structure.

Provided is a nickel-hydrogen secondary battery 2 comprising a sealing body 11 that seals an opening of an outer can 10, the sealing body 11 includes a sealing plate 14, and a positive electrode cap 20 welded to the sealing plate 14, the positive electrode cap 20 includes a cylindrical body section 40, an annular flange 42 provided along a circumferential edge of an opening 45 located at a base end 41 of the body section 40, and a top wall 44 provided to close a tip 43 opposite to the base end 41, and a welded part 60 between the sealing plate 14 and the positive electrode cap 20 is located at a position where a ratio of X to R in percentage is 0% or more and 2% or less, in which R is a length from a center C of the flange 42 to an outer circumferential edge 64 of the flange, and X is a length from an edge 66 of the welded part 60 on an outer side in a radial direction of the flange to the outer circumferential edge 64 of the flange.
