IRIS RECOGNITION SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF USING A STATISTICAL MODEL OF AN IRIS FOR AUTHENTICATION
The present disclosure describes systems and methods of using iris data for authentication. A biometric encoder may translate an image of the iris into a rectangular representation of the iris. The rectangular representation may include a plurality of rows corresponding to a plurality of annular portions of the iris. The biometric encoder may extract an intensity profile from at least one of the plurality of rows, the intensity profile modeled as a stochastic process. The biometric encoder may obtain a stationary stochastic component of the intensity profile by removing a non-stationary stochastic component from the intensity profile. The biometric encoder may remove at least a noise component from the stationary component using auto-regressive based modeling, to produce at least a non-linear background signal, and may combine the non-stationary component and the at least the non-linear background signal, to produce a biometric template for authenticating the person.
AUTOMATED MULTIPLE TARGET DETECTION AND TRACKING SYSTEM
For automated detection and tracking of multiple targets, an apparatus, method, and program product are disclosed. The apparatus includes a camera that captures video data and a processor that compensates for camera motion in the video data, processes the compensated video data to remove noise and spurious returns, detects one or more targets within the processed video data, and identifies target information for each target in the processed video data.
Fire urgency estimator in geosynchronous orbit (FUEGO)
A fire detector is disclosed that successively images a particular area from geosynchronous Earth orbit satellite to attain very good signal-to-noise ratios against Poisson fluctuations within one second. Differences between such images allow for the automatic detection of small fires greater than 12 square meters. Imaging typically takes place in transparent bands of the infrared spectrum, thereby rendering smoke from the fire and light clouds somewhat transparent. Several algorithms are disclosed that can help reduce false fire alarms, and their efficiencies are shown. Early fire detection and response would be of great value in the United States and other nations, as wild land fires destroy property and lives and contribute around five percent of the US global carbon dioxide contribution. Such apparatus would incorporate modern imaging detectors, software, and algorithms able to detect heat from early and small fires, and yield detection times on a scale of minutes.
Character recognition apparatus, character recognition processing system, and non-transitory computer readable medium
A character recognition apparatus includes a stroke extracting unit, a noise-candidate extracting unit, a generating unit, a unit, and a specifying unit. The stroke extracting unit extracts multiple strokes from a recognition target. The noise-candidate extracting unit extracts noise candidates from the strokes. The generating unit generates multiple recognition result candidates obtained by removing at least one of the noise candidates from the recognition target. The unit performs character recognition on the recognition result candidates and obtains recognition scores. The specifying unit uses the recognition scores to specify a most likely recognition result candidate from the recognition result candidates as a recognition result.
Capturing product details of purchases
Systems, methods and computer-readable media are disclosed for capturing purchase information regarding purchased items of a consumer. Upon receiving an image of a receipt (a receipt image) regarding a list of purchased items, receipt text is generated. The receipt text is processed to identify the purchased items in the receipt image. Accordingly, an iteration is begun to iterate through the item blocks of the receipt text. An item block corresponds to a discrete item in the receipt text. The processing comprises extracting textual elements from the item block and matching the textual elements to a known product. Upon matching the textual elements to a known product, the consumer inventory associated with the consumer is updated with regard to the purchase of the known product.
Image quality enhancing apparatus, image display apparatus, image quality enhancing method, and computer readable storage medium
An image quality enhancing apparatus, an image display apparatus, an image quality enhancing method, and a computer readable storage medium which make a learning-type image quality enhancing method utilizing a sparse expression practical are provided. The image quality enhancing apparatus calculates, from the feature quantity of an image, coefficients of low-image-quality base vectors expressing a feature quantity with a linear sum and generates the image with the enhanced image quality by calculating a linear sum of high-image-quality base vectors using the calculated coefficient. When calculating the coefficient, T base vectors highly influential on the feature quantity are selected from among a plurality of base vectors and an analytic solution making L2 norm of a coefficient matrix α as small as possible is calculated. A sparse solution of the coefficients can be obtained without using the iteration method and a practical image quality enhancing apparatus can be realized.
