Systems and methods for variable filter adjustment by heart rate metric feedback
A physiological signal processing system for a physiological waveform that includes a cardiovascular signal component provides a variable high pass filter that is responsive to the physiological waveform, and that is configured to high pass filter the physiological waveform in response to a corner frequency that is applied. A heart rate metric extractor is responsive to the variable high pass filter and is configured to extract a heart rate metric from the physiological waveform that is high pass filtered. A corner frequency adjuster is responsive to the heart rate metric extractor and is configured to determine the corner frequency that is applied to the variable high pass filter, based on the heart rate metric that was extracted. Analogous methods may also be provided.

A concentration level computing unit estimates a concentration level of the driver at a time later than a timing of obtaining the heartbeat by the heartbeat sensor, on the basis of the heartbeat obtained by the heartbeat sensor. A state determining unit controls driving assistance for a vehicle on the basis of a comparison of the concentration level of the driver estimated by the concentration level computing unit with a target concentration level of the driver that is set in association with a position or an environment in which the vehicle driven by the driver is predicted to travel.

An onboard system equipped to a vehicle includes a vehicle control device controlling a switching of a driving mode of the vehicle between a manual driving and a self-driving, and a brain activity sensor capable of detecting an activated portion of a brain of a driver of the vehicle. The vehicle control device determines whether a degree of uneasiness felt by the driver exceeds a threshold or not based on a detection result detected by the brain activity sensor before the switching of the driving mode. When determining that the degree of uneasiness felt by the driver does not exceed the threshold, the vehicle control device switches the driving mode. When determining that the degree of uneasiness felt by the driver exceeds the threshold, the vehicle control device performs a vehicle control corresponding to the degree of uneasiness felt by the driver.

A patient advisory device (“PAD”) and its methods of use. The PAD may be configured to alert the patient about an estimated brain state of the patient. In preferred embodiments, the PAD is adapted to alert the patient of the patient's brain state, which corresponds to the patient's propensity of transitioning into an ictal brain state, e.g., having a seizure. Based on the specific type of alert, the patient will be made aware whether they are highly unlikely to have a seizure for a given period of time, an elevated propensity of having a seizure, a seizure is occurring or imminent, or the patient's brain state is unknown.
