Embodiments of the present invention set forth techniques for a content player to stream a media file using multiple network connections. To stream the media file, the content player downloads metadata associated with a requested media file, establishes a network connection with multiple content servers (or multiple network connections with a single content server or both) and begins requesting portions of the media file. In response, the requested portions are transmitted to the content player. The content player may employ a predictive multi-connection scheduling approach to determine which network connection to use in downloading a given chunk.

Selective joinder of machine-type communication user equipment with wireless cell
Embodiments are described herein for selective joinder of wireless cells by machine-type communication (MTC) user equipment (UE). An MTC UE may detect a plurality of wireless cells, each provided by an evolved Node B (eNB). The MTC UE may detect eNB categories associated with individual wireless cells of the plurality of wireless cells, and may identify one or more wireless cells of the plurality of detected wireless cells on which MTC traffic is permitted based on the associated eNB categories. The MTC UE may selectively join a wireless cell of the one or more identified wireless cells based on a cell selection criterion. Additionally, an eNB may provide a wireless cell and provide, to an MTC UE, an MTC policy that identifies a circumstance under which the eNB will permit MTC traffic. The eNB may be configured to selectively serve the MTC UE based on the MTC policy.
System for propagating messages for purposes of demand response
A system having a utility, a communications intermediary and demand response resources. The utility may be connected to the communications intermediary via a network. The demand response resources may be connected to the communications intermediary via another network. A single dispatch destined for the demand response resources may be sent to the communications intermediary. The dispatch may be disaggregated at the communications intermediary into a multitude of dispatches which may be dispersed to their respective destined demand response resources. The demand response resources may send telemetries to the communications intermediary that aggregates the telemetries into a single telemetry. The single telemetry may be sent to the utility.
Automated grouping of computing devices in a networked data storage system
According to certain aspects, systems and methods are provided for grouping clients together in a networked data storage environment. For instance, clients can be grouped together based on the software installed on the client or the client type. Each client group can be configured to maintain the configuration of clients within the client group. For example, one client group can be configured to ensure that a particular software suite remains up-to-date. Another client group can be configured to ensure that data within a particular directory or on a particular storage device associated with each client of the client group is backed up each night.
Notification click-through rate (CTR) thresholds
In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a number of notifications of activity relevant to a user. Each notification has an associated type. The method also includes calculating an estimated click-through rate (CTR) for each notification based at least in part on the type associated with each notification; determining a push threshold value for each notification based at least in part on the estimated CTR for each notification; and sending one or more of the notifications to the user. Each of the sent notifications has a push threshold value higher than a pre-determined push threshold value.

Signalling assymetric media capabilities
There are provided mechanisms for signalling asymmetric media capabilities using session description protocol, SDP, signalling. Media capabilities for at least one of sending media streams and receiving media streams are generated by a first electronic device. The first electronic device also generating an SDP offer comprising media descriptions for at least one media stream based on the acquired media capabilities. At least one media stream in the SDP offer is represented by at least two media descriptions. The at least two media descriptions represent asymmetric media capabilities in relation to each other. A first SDP message comprising the generated SDP offer is sent to a second electronic device.
Methods and systems to perform at least one action according to a user's gesture and identity
The present invention discloses methods and systems for performing at least one action at a system according to a user's gesture information. The required steps comprises of capturing the user's gestures information by a mobile apparatus, wherein the apparatus comprises an antenna, a processor, a storage medium, at least one accelerometer, wherein the accelerometer has at least 3 axis; comparing gesture information against one or more predefined gesture information at the mobile apparatus and when the gesture information matches a predefined gesture information, the mobile apparatus selects a first identity based on the predefined gesture information, sends encrypted information to a system through a reader wherein the encrypted information comprises the predefined gesture information, the first identity, a timestamp, and a device identity. The system performs at least one action according to the encrypted information. When the gesture information does not match any pre-defined gesture information, the mobile apparatus sends a failure notice to the user. The mobile apparatus or device does not send the encrypted information unless the device is physically close to the reader by a first wireless signal strength.
