SECURITY DEVICES
A security device is provided including a first pattern of elements and a second, overlapping, pattern of elements spaced by a transparent layer, the first and second patterns in combination obstructing the passage of light transmitted to a viewer through the device to a varying degree depending on the viewing position. The first and second patterns of elements are configured such that a first region of the device exhibits a maximum change in the degree of obstruction when the device is tilted relative to the viewer about a first tilt axis, and a second region of the device exhibits a maximum change in the degree of obstruction when the device is tilted relative to the viewer about a second tilt axis which is not parallel to the first tilt axis.
Multilayer body
A multilayer body includes a transparent first layer. In the transparent first layer, a multiplicity microlenses arranged in accordance with a microlens grid are impressed in a first region. Furthermore, the multilayer body includes a second layer, which is arranged below the first layer and in a fixed position with respect to the first layer and has a multiplicity of microimages arranged in accordance with a microimage grid and in each case in an at least regional overlap with one of the microlenses of the microlens grid for the purpose of generating a first optically variable information item. The grid pitches of the microimage grid and of the microlens grid in each case in at least one spatial direction are less than 300 m.
Display and labeled article
A display includes a first optical effect layer including a first interface part, the first interface part being provided with recesses or protrusions arranged two-dimensionally at the minimum center-to-center distance in a range of 200 nm to 500 nm, each of the recesses or protrusions having a forward-tapered shape; a reflective material layer covering at least a part of the first interface part; and a second optical effect layer including, at a position of a first portion of the first interface part that is covered with the reflective material layer, a portion that faces the reflective material layer with the first optical effect layer interposed therebetween or faces the first optical effect layer with the reflective material layer interposed therebetween, the second optical effect layer containing at least one of a cholesteric liquid crystal, a pearl pigment and a multilayer interference film.
Diffuse reflective optical films with spatially selective birefringence reduction
A diffusely reflective optical film includes a blended layer extending from a first to a second zone of the film. The blended layer includes first and second polymer materials separated into distinct first and second phases, respectively. The blended layer may have the same composition and thickness in the first and second zones, but different first and second diffusely reflective characteristics in the first and second zones, respectively. The difference between the first and second diffusely reflective characteristics may not be attributable to any difference in composition or thickness of the layer between the first and second zones. Instead, the difference between the first and second diffusely reflective characteristic may be attributable to a difference in birefringence of the first and/or second polymer materials between the first and second zones. The blend morphology of the blended layer may be substantially the same in the first and second zones.
Card with embedded image
A card includes a layer of deformable material embossed with a three dimensional (3-D) pattern. A first layer is in direct contact with and overlies the embossed deformable layer. A second layer is in direct contact with and underlies the embossed deformable layer. The first layer is of conformable material and extends within the embossed pattern for filling, setting and maintaining the embossed pattern in a fixed condition. The second layer is of conformable material and conforms to the embossed pattern set in the deformable layer.
Optical effect layer
Disclosure relates to the field of graphical elements and is directed to a device for producing an optical effect layer (OEL). Disclosure provides an optical effect that is easy to detect as such and exhibits a viewing-angle dependent apparent motion of image features over an extended length if the viewing angle with respect to the OEL changes. OEL includes a binder material being at least partially transparent and a plurality of particles dispersed within the layer. Each particle has a non-isotropic reflectivity and may be magnetic or magnetizable. Orientation of the particles forms an orientation pattern extending over a length within an extended surface of the OEL, such that the local average of an angle between (i) a straight line along an observed longest dimension within the corresponding cross-section shape, and (ii) said first direction x varies according to a function () of a position (P) along said first direction.
Security devices and methods of manufacture thereof
A security device is provided including a transparent layer having a first optically variable effect generating relief structure formed in a surface thereof; a reflection enhancing body extending over the first relief structure and following the contour of the first relief on a first side of the reflection enhancing body; and a second optically variable effect generating relief structure formed in a second side of the reflection enhancing body. The reflection enhancing body includes at least a first reflection enhancing layer defining the first and/or second sides of the reflection enhancing body and the first reflection enhancing layer includes a binder having reflective particles dispersed therein. When the device is viewed through the transparent layer, the optically variable effect of the first relief structure is visible and when the device is viewed from the other side, the optically variable effect of the second relief structure is visible.
Security devices

The first and second patterns of elements are configured such that a first region of the device exhibits a maximum change in the degree of obstruction when the device is tilted relative to the viewer about a first tilt axis, and a second region of the device exhibits a maximum change in the degree of obstruction when the device is tilted relative to the viewer about a second tilt axis which is not parallel to the first tilt axis.
DISPLAY HAVING LIGHT-SCATTERING PROPERTY
A display includes light-scattering regions. Each of the light-scattering regions is provided with linear protrusions and/or recesses having the same longitudinal direction. The light-scattering regions are different from each other in the longitudinal direction.
Optical effect layer
The disclosure relates to the field of graphical elements and is directed to an optical effect layer (OEL), a device and a method for producing same. The disclosure provides an optical effect that is easy to detect as such and exhibits a viewing-angle dependent apparent motion of image features over an extended length if the viewing angle with respect to the OEL changes. An OEL includes a binder material being at least partially transparent and a plurality of particles dispersed within the layer. Each particle has a non-isotropic reflectivity and may be magnetic or magnetizable. The orientation of the particles forms an orientation pattern extending over a length within an extended surface of the OEL, such that the local average of an angle between (i) a straight line along an observed longest dimension within the corresponding cross-section shape, and (ii) said first direction x varies according to a function () of a position (P) along said first direction.
