Composite structure for airbag cover
The invention provides a composite structure containing a foam layer, an inner layer and an outer layer of a thermoplastic compact cover layer, and a lacquer layer in this order, and having a tensile strength according to DIN EN ISO 527-3 at 2000 mm/min and 23° C. of less than 5 MPa in both a first direction and a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, wherein the density of the foam layer is 40 to 150 kg/m3, the inner layer contains particles of an elastomer (polymer (F)) and at least 50 wt % of a thermoplastic polyolefin (polymer (E)) and is directly bonded to the outer layer, the outer layer differs from the inner layer in its composition and contains the following polymers (A) to (C) in a total amount of 100 parts by weight: 25 to 70 parts by weight of particles of an elastomer (polymer (A)), 0 to 40 parts by weight of a low-density polyethylene (polymer (B)), and 20 to 70 parts by weight of a thermoplastic polyolefin (polymer (C)) other than polymer (B). The invention provides the use of the composite structure in car interiors, in particular as airbag cover, a method for the production of the composite structure.
Particulate compositions comprising a metal precursor for additive manufacturing and methods associated therewith
Additive manufacturing processes, such as powder bed fusion of thermoplastic particulates, may be employed to form printed objects in a range of shapes. It is sometimes desirable to form conductive traces upon the surface of printed objects. Conductive traces and similar features may be introduced during additive manufacturing processes by incorporating a metal precursor in a thermoplastic printing composition, converting a portion of the metal precursor to discontinuous metal islands using laser irradiation, and performing electroless plating. Suitable printing compositions may comprise a plurality of thermoplastic particulates comprising a thermoplastic polymer, a metal precursor admixed with the thermoplastic polymer, and optionally a plurality of nanoparticles disposed upon an outer surface of each of the thermoplastic particulates, wherein the metal precursor is activatable to form metal islands upon exposure to laser irradiation. Melt emulsification may be used to form the thermoplastic particulates.
Plastics coloring using cottonseed oil-based liquid color compositions
A method of fabricating plastic products having a preselected color, comprising preparing a dispersion of pigment of the preselected color in cottonseed oil; supplying a preselected plastic resin for the product to be fabricated to a process machine having a rotating screw; furnishing the dispersion to the process machine at a position adjacent to threaded portion of the rotating screw; and blending the dispersion and the resin by rotating the screw.
Reinforced structure having continuous fiber reinforced elements and method of making thereof
Disclosed are reinforced structures. The structures are comprised of reinforced elements that have continuous fibers embedded in a matrix material. The reinforced elements are combined in a matrix material to form a desired shape of reinforced structure.
3D printing machine
A 3D printing machine includes a first spinning part moving in directions of three axes, i.e., X-, Y-, and Z-axes, to melt and spin a base material; and a second spinning part moving along a moving direction of the first spinning part to spin reinforcing fiber onto an upper surface of the spun base material, and moving clockwise or counterclockwise so that the reinforcing fiber is spun onto the upper surface of the base material at a moment when the first spinning part changes a moving direction thereof to the X- or Y-axis direction.
Preform extended finish for processing light weight ecologically beneficial bottles
A plastic preform apparatus is disclosed that is suitable for forming a bottle. The plastic preform apparatus features a neck portion adapted to engage a closure and includes a support ring at its lowermost point. The neck portion features a first wall thickness, and an elongated body portion including a cylindrical wall portion and an end cap. An upper segment of the body portion adjacent to the support ring features a second wall thickness substantially similar to the first wall thickness and less than a third wall thickness in a lower segment of the body portion.
Panel with paint ready surface
In a preferred embodiment, a composite panel with a smooth outer surface, ready for painting with or without addition of primer, may be created by constructing a panel layup assembly upon a mold, the panel layup assembly including a composite panel having a core and a resin formulation, and a release film between the mold and the composite panel, where a smooth release surface of the release film is in contact with the composite panel upon construction; initiating curing of the composite panel at a first temperature within a lowermost ten percent of a curing temperature range of the resin formulation; continuing curing of the composite panel at a second temperature above the lowermost ten percent of the curing temperature range; and completing curing of the composite panel at a third temperature below the second temperature.
