The present disclosure relates, according to some embodiments, to systems, compositions, and methods for sanitizing a food product with an alkaline antimicrobial composition. For example, the present disclosure relates, in some embodiments, to a composition for sanitizing a food product with regard to at least one microorganism without substantial residue of the composition left on the sanitized food product, the composition comprising (a) at least one quaternary ammonium compound (b) a base, and (c) at least one solubility enhancing agent. The present disclosure also relates to a system for sanitizing a food product, the system comprising a housing, a plurality of work pieces passing through the housing, a conduit for applying an alkaline antimicrobial composition to the work pieces, and a chiller.
CITRUS-BASED ANTIMICROBIAL COMPOSITION
Citrus-based antimicrobial compositions having broad spectrum antimicrobial activity against microorganisms such as bacteria, yeast, molds and fungi are described. The citrus-based antimicrobial compositions are suitable for use in food products, personal care products, oral products, or as surface/topical antimicrobials. The antimicrobial compositions generally comprise citrus extract as the principal antimicrobial ingredient, as well as a relatively low concentration of lauric arginate as an additive. In some embodiments, advantageous ingredient ratios of the citrus extracts to lauric arginate are provided. In some embodiments, formulations comprising the citrus-based antimicrobial compositions and taste-enhancing agents are provided, which mask the unpleasant taste that may be associated with the citrus extract, allowing for its use in food products. Methods of preparing antimicrobial citrus extracts and antimicrobial compositions, uses thereof, and products comprising same are also described.
NANOEMULSION ENDOWED WITH ANTISEPTIC EFFECT
Provided is a nanoemulsion which has stability and to which preservative efficacy is imparted, in a bacterial contamination environment. This object is attained by a nanoemulsion which has an average particle diameter of 30 nm or less, has a particle size distribution index of 0.14 or less, does not contain particles of 100 nm or more, and contains, as a preservative, at least one selected from an organic acid (salt) and a biguanide-based compound.
COMPOSITION, METHOD FOR MICROORGANISM GROWTH SUPPRESSION IN COMPOSITION FOR ORAL USE, AND AGENT FOR POTENTIATION OF MICROORGANISM-GROWTH-SUPPRESSING EFFECT OF QUERCETIN OR GLYCOSIDE THEREOF
The present invention aims to provide a technique to effectively inhibit microorganism growth in an oral composition and the like. The present invention relates to a composition containing (A) L-ergothioneine or a salt thereof and (B) quercetin or a glycoside thereof.
Systems and methods for manufacturing a silk fibroin solution and powders containing silk fibroin
The disclosure relates to systems and methods for improving the manufacturing of silk solutions and powders containing silk fibroin obtained from silkworm cocoons. The systems include a reactor vessel to degum, rinse, and dissolve the silk fibroin protein from silk inputs to obtain a purified silk fibroin-based solution. The reactor vessel may include a combination of inputs and outputs for introducing and removing different components used or generated during the disclosed processes. The systems may include any combination of heat exchangers, holding tanks, filtration modules, and post-treatment equipment as necessary to obtain the silk powder. The solutions and powders can be used to improve the post-harvest preservation of perishables and to improve the performance of packaging, including biodegradable packaging.
Beverages and foodstuffs resistant to light induced flavour changes, processes for making the same, and compositions for imparting such resistance
One aspect of the present invention is concerned with a composition containing: (A) at least 10 g of particular substituted pyrroles per kg of dry matter; and (B) at least 100 mg per kg of dry matter of a pyranone selected from the group consisting of maltol, 2,3-dihydro-3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl-4H-pyran-4-one and combinations thereof;
which composition, when dissolved in water at a dry solids content of 0.1 wt. %, exhibits: i. an absorption at 280 nm (A.sub.280) that exceeds 0.01, preferably exceeds 0.05; and ii. an absorption ratio A.sub.280/560 of at least 100, preferably of at least 200. The present composition can advantageously be used as an additive in beverages or foodstuffs to prevent or reduce light induced flavor changes.
