A liquid discharge device includes a first liquid container, a liquid discharger, a second liquid container, a first liquid flow passage, and a second liquid flow passage. The first liquid container is configured to contain liquid. The liquid discharger is configured to discharge the liquid supplied from the first liquid container in a liquid supply direction. The second liquid container is configured to contain the liquid supplied from the first liquid container. The first liquid flow passage is a passage through which the liquid is supplied from the first liquid container to the liquid discharger via the second liquid container. The second liquid flow passage is a passage through which the liquid is supplied from the first liquid container to the liquid discharger without passing through the second liquid container.

PRINTING SYSTEM WITH A PRINTING FLUID COLLECTOR

Certain examples described herein relate to printing systems and methods of operating the same. In an example of a printing system, a porosity determiner determines a porosity of a print medium and a signal generator generates a signal relating to a state of a printing fluid collector based on the porosity determined. In an example of a method of operating a printing system, a pressure measurement is obtained from a vacuum system of the printing system when a print medium is present on a media path of the printing system. This is compared to at least one predefined pressure range and, based on the comparison, an indication is provided setting out a state of a printing fluid collector.

Inkjet printing apparatus and determining method

An inkjet printing apparatus includes a print head that ejects ink, a waste ink tank having an absorber that absorbs ink discharged from the print head. The inkjet printing apparatus further includes a counting unit that counts a waste ink amount discharged to the waste ink tank, a timer that measures an elapsed time from installation of the waste ink tank in the apparatus, an acquiring unit that acquires a waste ink retention amount by obtaining an evaporation amount from evaporation of waste ink retained in the waste ink tank based on the elapsed time and subtracting the evaporation amount from the waste ink amount, a notifying unit that notifies that the waste ink retention amount exceeds a threshold; and a setting unit that sets the threshold based on a waste ink evaporation rate calculated by using the evaporation amount and the waste ink amount.

A printer includes an ink head including a nozzle, a damper connected with the ink head, a pressure sensor to detect a damper pressure in the damper, a cap attachable to the ink head so as to cover the nozzle, an upward/downward moving mechanism to move the cap upward and downward with respect to the ink head, a suction pump connected with the cap, and a controller. The controller is configured or programmed to include a suction controller to execute a suction process to drive the suction pump in a state where the cap is attached to the ink head, a pressure acquisition controller to acquire the damper pressure from the pressure sensor during the suction process, and an upward/downward movement controller to control the cap to move upward toward the ink head when a change amount of the damper pressure is no larger than a reference change amount.

Drop-on-demand card printer with ink tray

A drop-on-demand plastic card printer includes a tray disposed underneath the plastic card during drop-on-demand printing to catch any overspray that may occur during printing on the plastic card. The tray may be disposable so that the tray is intended to be removed and disposed of. An ink absorbent pad can be disposed in the tray to absorb the oversprayed ink. The ink absorbent pad can be disposed of along with the tray or disposed of separately from the tray.
