Systems and methods for joining a vehicle structure

A vehicle includes a body structure having an occupant compartment, and a frame structure having a chassis. The body structure and the frame structure are fastened together using a plurality of fasteners and an adhesive. To illustrate, the plurality of fasteners may include 20, 50, 70, or more fasteners. The adhesive is arranged at one or more positions along the interface between the body structure to the frame structure. The plurality of fasteners extend beyond the wheel wells, and provide hard mounts between the body structure and frame structure. The adhesive helps to prevent stress concentrations by extending the locations of load transfer between the body structure and the frame structure. Body panels are added before or after the body structure is affixed to the frame structure.

In an embodiment a rear quarter vehicle body structure includes a quarter complete including a quarter pillar upper reinforcement and a quarter complete outer welding surface formed at an outside of a vehicle body and a side outer rear extension assembly including a side outer rear extension having a rear extension outer flange formed at the outside of the vehicle body, wherein an inner surface of the rear extension outer flange is joined to the quarter complete outer welding surface.

Electrically operated vehicle and method for occupant protection

An electrically operated vehicle having a traction battery installed on the underside of the vehicle and a body side structure which has a door entry region on a lateral rocker panel. The vehicle has at least one shielding element which at least partially closes a free distance between the underside of the vehicle and a vehicle standing plane in the event of battery damage, so that the door entry region is shielded from the damaged traction battery installed on the underside of the vehicle.

Rocker structure for a vehicle and method for obtaining thereof

Rocker structure (R1-R3) for a vehicle comprising a first steel profile (1) and a second steel profile (2) having the longitudinal direction (L) of the vehicle so that a channel (CH) is defined therebetween, the first and second profiles(1, 2) comprising a vertical central section (13), the rocker structure (R1-R3) comprising a first impact absorption element (3) arranged in the channel (CH), wherein the first impact absorption element (3) is a closed steel profile wherein an upper lobe (31) and a lower lobe (32) joined by a central joining section (33) are defined, the upper lobe (31) being located closer to the upper joining flanges (11, 21), the lower lobe (32) closer to the lower joining flanges (21, 22). The invention also relates to a method for obtaining the rocker structure and to vehicles provided with the inventive rocker structure.

Side vehicle body structure of vehicle

A vehicle body side structure is provided where an exhaust apparatus is located on the vehicle-width-direction outer side relative to a side sill without widening the vehicle. Embodiments include an internal combustion engine equipped on the front side of a partition wall defining a front edge of a vehicle cabin space, an exhaust apparatus through which exhaust gas exhausted from the internal combustion engine passes, and a side sill extending along the vehicle front-rear direction on the side of a floor forming a floor surface of the vehicle cabin space. The side sill has a recess having a cross section recessed toward the vehicle-width-direction inner side from the vehicle-width-direction outer side in a cross-sectional view orthogonal to the vehicle front-rear direction and extending in the vehicle front-rear direction, and an exhaust system member provided in the exhaust apparatus is disposed at the recess.

VEHICLE-BODY STRUCTURE WITH A BATTERY COVER FOR IMPROVED AERODYNAMIC PERFORMANCE

A vehicle-body structure both protects a battery and provides a routing member below a floor panel that improves underfloor aerodynamic performance. Embodiments of a vehicle-body structure may include: a routing member that extends in a vehicle front-rear direction on a vehicle-width-direction outer side of a battery frame below a floor panel; a cover member that extends from a lower side of a battery to a lower side of the routing member; battery-frame fixation portions that fix the battery frame to side sills; and cover-member fixation portions that fix a vehicle-width-direction end portion of the cover member to the side sills. The routing member and the battery-frame fixation portions may be positioned on a vehicle-width-direction inner side of the cover-member fixation portions.

A vehicle body side structure is provided. A vehicle body side structure includes a front fender, a side sill garnish, and an aerodynamic duct. The front fender has a fender recess portion below a first wheel arch portion. The side sill garnish has a second wheel arch portion that faces the fender recess portion at the outer side in the vehicle width direction at interval and faces a rear end of the first wheel arch portion. The aerodynamic duct is interposed between the second wheel arch portion and the fender recess portion. The width of the second wheel arch portion gradually decreases in the front-rear direction of the vehicle body as it extends upward from the front end portion of the side sill garnish to an upper edge.

STRUCTURAL IMPACT ASSEMBLY AND VEHICLE HAVING STRUCTURAL IMPACT ASSEMBLY

A structural assembly for use in a motor vehicle includes a rocker and a running board. The motor vehicle includes a vehicle frame and a door. The rocker extends in a longitudinal direction of the motor vehicle. The running board is movably coupled to the vehicle frame between a deployed position and a stowed position in which an upper portion of the running board extends vertically above the rocker. The running board is configured to be positioned underneath the door and substantially flush with a lower portion of the door when the door is in a closed position and the running board is in the stowed position.

REAR VEHICLE BODY STRUCTURE

A rear portion of a vehicle body includes a front floor panel, a rear floor panel, a pair of left and right side sills, and a front cross plate. The rear floor panel has a higher upper surface height than the front floor panel. The front cross plate connects a rear portion of the front floor panel and a front wall of the rear floor panel, and an outer end portion in a vehicle width direction is coupled to the left and right side sills. The front wall of the rear floor panel has a plurality of bent corner portions having a side view shape bent in a substantially L shape. At least one of the bent corner portions constitutes a closed cross section extending along the vehicle width direction together with the front cross plate in a vertical height range of the left and right side sills.
