Structural component
11358651 · 2022-06-14 · ·

A motor vehicle front end having a structural component that has a first structural element for absorbing mechanical forces. The first structural element surrounds a spatial region, at least in part, such that a cavity is formed in the interior of the first structural element. The first structural element has a surface region that defines said cavity. The structural component has at least one second structural element which is connected to the first structural element. For the purpose of mechanical reinforcement of the first structural element, the structural component has at least one reinforcing element. The reinforcing element supports a portion of the surface region. The first structural element is composed of at least two separate structural element parts.

Composite structure

This composite structure is characterized in that: an internally inserted component, which is molded from a resin material having a tensile elongation of 10% or more, is placed inside a metal member having a hollow closed cross-section such that an external load can be received by both the internally inserted component and the metal member, and the outer shape of the internally inserted component occupies 50% or more relative to the hollow closed cross-section of the metal member as projection area ratio. By disposing the resin-made internally inserted component having a specific toughness at a specified state inside the metal member having a hollow closed cross-section, especially when a collision load occurs, the metal member undergoes ductile deformation and the internally inserted component also deforms correspondingly, and thus the waveform of the load-displacement curve can approach an ideal rectangular waveform, and excellent impact energy absorbing performance can be exhibited.

HYBRID STRUCTURE AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING

The invention relates to a hybrid structure comprising a first component having a base and an upstanding wall extending from the base, the first component having an interior enclosed between the upstanding wall and the base, and a thermoplastic second component moulded to the first component, the second component comprising a reinforcing portion for structurally reinforcing the first component, the reinforcing portion extending in a longitudinal direction of the first component and located in the interior of the first component, the thermoplastic second component further comprising a locking portion that extends adjacently over at least part of an exterior of the first component, wherein the reinforcing portion and the locking portion are integrally formed, thus interlocking the first component in the thermoplastic second component. The invention relates as well to a method for manufacturing such a hybrid structure, and to a vehicle comprising such a hybrid structure.

Body side panel

A body side panel includes a metal panel and plastics that are integrally-molded on the metal panel to reinforce the metal panel. The plastics include a plastic layer formed on a surface of the metal panel and ribs raised from the plastic layer. The ribs have plural straight ribs formed radially from an end edge portion of the metal panel on its outer circumferential side along the surface thereof, and a joint rib jointing the plural straight ribs so as to intersect therewith.

Hybrid material vehicle panel and methods of making the same

The present disclosure relates to a hybrid material panel assembly for a vehicle. The panel assembly includes a panel and a plurality of mounting flanges integrally formed with the panel. The panel is formed of a first material having a first coefficient of thermal expansion. The plurality of mounting flanges are formed of a second material having a second coefficient of thermal expansion, where each of the plurality of mounting flanges include a mounting area that defines a mounting surface and at least one mounting hole. The first coefficient of thermal expansion is greater than the second coefficient of thermal expansion.
