The invention further relates to a vehicle comprising such a vehicle component, wherein the vehicle is one of a railway vehicle, a marine vehicle, a road vehicle, or an aircraft.

The replacement tailgate may have front and rear shells that are used to support objects placed in the truck bed as well as act as the new tailgate when the truck bed length is elongated. Various panels may be unfolded in order to trap objects within the truck bed when the replacement tailgate is unfolded in order to elongate the truck bed length.

Disclosed are various embodiments of a tailgate saver system. In one nonlimiting example embodiment, the tailgate saver includes a crossbar, a pair of supports connected to the crossbar, a tightening mechanism attached to the crossbar, and a strap connected to the tightening mechanism. The crossbar may be configured to extend across a width of a bed of a pickup truck and the pair of supports may be configured to insert into, and be held by, the pickup truck's stake pockets. When the pair of supports are inserted in the stake pockets of the bed of the pickup truck the crossbar prevents elongated objects hauled in the bed of the pickup truck from resting on the tailgate thereby allowing the tailgate to be opened and closed.

The system (20) including a pair of side reinforcements (24, 26). Each side reinforcement (24, 26) is securable to one side of the pair of side panels (14, 16) of the cargo box (10). Each side reinforcement (24, 26) is secured with an end (40) of the upper front panel reinforcement (22). Also, the system (20) includes a pair of gussets (28, 30). Each gusset (28, 30) is coupled with the upper front panel reinforcement (22) and one of the pair of side reinforcements (24, 26).
