MOORING STRUCTURE FOR OCEAN WAVE ENERGY CONVERTERS
20220219791 · 2022-07-14 ·

A mooring system for an Ocean Wave Energy Converters (OWEC) includes multiple structural members such as legs and braces that are linearly extendible and connected using mobile joints, each joint providing two degrees of freedom for rotations about the joint. Mobile joints also attach bottom ends of the legs to mooring points. A jacking system can change lengths of the extensible structural members to adjust depth of the OWEC for operation or for storm safety, to lift the OWEC out of the water for maintenance, or to align the OWEC to an incoming wave direction.

Systems, devices and methods for monitoring support platform structural conditions
11422047 · 2022-08-23 · ·

Systems, devices and methods enable generation and monitoring of support platform structural conditions in a manner that overcomes drawbacks associated with conventional approaches (e.g., load cells) for generating and monitoring similar operating condition information. In preferred embodiments, such systems, devices and methods utilize fiber optic strain gauges (i.e., fiber optic sensors) in place of (e.g., retrofit/data replacement) or in combination with conventional load cells. The fiber optic sensors are strategically placed at a plurality of locations on one or more support bodies of a support platform. In preferred embodiments, the fiber optic strain gauges are placed in positions within a hull and/or one or more pontoons of an offshore platform. Such positions are selected whereby resulting operating condition data generated by the fiber optic strain gauges suitably replaces data received by conventionally constructed and located load cells of an offshore platform (e.g., a TLP).

FLOATING WIND TURBINE SUPPORT

Floating support for a wind turbine including a central support member, and at least three buoyancy assemblies, each connected to the central support member via a radial connector beam and mutually interconnected via a transverse connector beam, wherein each buoyancy assembly includes a connector body having two radial sides, an outward and an inward transverse side, wherein two transverse connector beams and a radial connector beam extend away from the inward transverse side of the connector body, an anchor is provided at or near the outward transverse side of the connector body and the radial sides of the connector body are each connected to a respective buoyancy element.

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR A REAL-TIME-MONITORING OF A RISER AND MOORING OF FLOATING PLATFORMS

An apparatus, method and system for real-time monitoring of underwater risers, cables, and mooring lines based on a Kalman filter. In an embodiment, the system is formed with sensors configured to sense an inclination of a riser segment between riser nodes of the riser between the upper end and the lower end. A data processing system is configured to employ a Kalman filter algorithm to produce real-time estimates of a deformed shape and a stress of the riser segment using the sensed inclination between the riser nodes.

CONNECTION APPARATUS
20220074441 · 2022-03-10 ·

A connection apparatus 10 for mounting a cable to a structure such as a wind turbine or oil rig. The apparatus 10 including a receiving member 14 having a hollow body with a diverging mouth, a latch member 22 movably mounted on the outside of the receiving member 14 with a latch part 24 extending into the receiving member 14. A mounting member 16 is provided which mounts the cable extending therethrough. The mounting member 16 is selectively locatable in the receiving member 14 with the latch part 24 engaging with a retaining formation in the form of a groove 56 to retain the mounting member 16 in the receiving member 14 and hence retain the cable mounted to the structure.

Rotary Cam Operated Release Mechanism
20210323640 · 2021-10-21 ·

A release mechanism for a tether assembly. A circular base ring has a central opening sized to accept a connecting member, and a plurality of radial slots. Dogs are disposed in the radial slots, and movable radially inwardly and outwardly. A cam ring having angled slots is operatively connected to the base ring, with upturned ends on the dogs engaged in the angled slots. Relative rotation between the cam ring and the base ring, by hydraulic cylinders connecting the two rings, moves the dogs radially inwardly and outwardly. In their radially inward position the dogs engage a circumferential groove in an elongated connecting member, thereby connecting the tether assembly.

System for securing a floating structure with one or more tension devices
11066130 · 2021-07-20 ·

A tension device for securing a floating structure to a fixed point includes an elastic member and an inelastic member. The elastic member has a length between a first end and a second end thereof. The length is elastically variable under tension. The inelastic member limits elongation of the length of the elastic member. The tension device has a first length when the elastic member is not under tension and a longer length when the elastic member is elastically stretched by a tension force. The inelastic member limits elastic elongation of the elastic member to a second length.

MODULAR STORAGE STRUCTURE FOR POSITIONING IN A BODY OF WATER
20210245849 · 2021-08-12 ·

A storage structure is configured to be buoyant or retained above a water line. The storage structure includes a frame having a back beam, a left beam attached to the back beam, a right beam attached to the back beam and a front beam attached to the left beam and the right beam to form a substantially rectangular configuration, wherein prior to a last of the beams being secured together an interior space accessible through an opening. The storage structure includes a bladder configured to be positioned through the interior space though the opening wherein the bladder is sized to be retained within the interior space whether the storage structure is above the water line or buoyant, the bladder including a vent, a fill port and a drain wherein an amount of water within the bladder is manipulated to provide ballast or buoyancy to the storage structure. The storage structure includes at least one floor panel secured to the frame over the bladder, side walls extending from a perimeter of the floor panel, wherein one side wall includes a door for ingress and egress to the storage structure. The storage structure includes a roof attached to the side walls.

CABLE MANAGEMENT ON MARINE DRILLING RISERS

A drilling riser cable management system includes a plurality of clamping mechanisms pre-installed on riser joints and a robotic arm. The robotic arm has a cable handling mechanism that is configured to securely install the cable on each clamping mechanism without relying on human manipulation of the cable during installation.
