COUNTER ROTATING PROPELLER POD MECHANICAL ARRANGEMENT

Provided is a pod propulsion system including first and second counter rotating propellers for propelling a marine vessel first and second propeller modules, each including an electric motor having a driving-end configured to rotate the first and second propellers, respectively. Also included are first and second gondolas, each (i) for housing a respective one of the first and second electric motors and (ii) including a boltable interface formed along a lengthwise direction of an extremity of the gondola. A strut (i) connects the first and second gondolas to a hull of the marine vessel (ii) including first and second boltable interfaces. Each of the boltable interfaces of the strut is configured to form a bolted joint interface with a corresponding one of boltable interfaces of the first and second gondolas.

A battery enclosure for a personal watercraft is provided. Different configurations of the battery enclosure are disclosed, as well as different arrangements of the battery enclosure within the personal watercraft and with respect to other features of the personal watercraft. According to one embodiment, a personal watercraft includes a deck and a hull defining an interior volume. An electric motor is housed within the interior volume, the electric motor being operable to rotate a drive shaft. A battery pack having a battery enclosure housing one or more batteries is also positioned within the interior volume. A portion of at least one battery of the one or more batteries is positioned vertically above the drive shaft.

The method also includes calculating, using the positions and the course-through-medium, a variation of a speed-over-ground of the vehicle over the time as a function of the course-through-medium over the time. The method also includes concurrently estimating, using the variation, 1) an average speed-through-medium for the vehicle over the time, and 2) an advection rate of the medium, and 3) an advection direction of the medium.

The rotational output is provided to the propeller to power the marine propulsion apparatus. The stator includes one or more coils configured to power rotation of the rotor. The one or more coils extend circumferentially around and can be coaxial on the axis. A portion of a housing of the motor extends into the aquatic environment to facilitate heat dissipation.
